I don’t think I’ve ever been this scared of having the lights off at bedtime since I was a child. Yikes! Well done, Grady Hendrix and the voice actor.

Thank you, Marianne Williamson. You have changed my life for the better. I first read this book as a print copy several years ago and didn’t finish it, but returned to it recently on audio form and I am so glad I did. Hearing her read her own words hits differently in the very best way. I wish return to this book, and to love, again and again.

I was hooked from beginning to end. Already bought the second in the Housemaid series while finishing the last bit of this one. So many mic drop twists, I loved it!

This book was so good! I was guessing the entire time up until the end and still did not see the twist that came when it did. The voice performance was generally fine except for the parts of Verity’s autobiography, which at times felt like a robotic voice. I also think that the character of Jeremy was so significant it would have been worth it to have a male voice actor alongside a female voice actor for the story ti really have impact it could. Overall, a great read! I will definitely try another of Hoover’s books and I am glad this was the first I read.

Last 1/3 good, but did not stick landing

I loved the first book but the second one as a bit of a let down. The pacing was too slow in the first 2/3 of the book with no payoff for caring about key characters in the last 1/3 such as Kirk. I did like the romance building between Emma and Bell but it dragged on too long and would have been more effective if there was more declaration of their love before that last 1/3 for drama and higher stakes. The cliffhanger was fine but felt so low energy to head into what is presumably the end of a trilogy. I’ll be reading the next book if there is another for sure, but Book 2 just kind of wobbled to an end when it could really have stuck the landing.

Worthy of every single accolade it has received. And the audiobook is terrific. A great voice actor, held my attention the whole time and gave each character across stories their own being.

Really enjoyed the voice of the narrator and her pronunciation of the various words in French, Italian and words in other languages and from other times that shaped the period of which Leamer writes. I enjoyed the book but really wanted more details on the fallout when Capote’s excerpt was published. I especially wondered about how some people remaining his friend and others not effected their own interactions or perhaps how it changed whether people in this social circle ever let anyone like Capote in again. Overall, good book.

The story this book tells is as romantic, exciting, and insightful as it is heartbreaking. Dana Thomas gives an unflinching assessment of the fashion industry through the lives of two of its greats. I couldn’t stop listening.

A must real for any creative, anyone in a position of power or influence, and anyone who just feels different. I left this book feeling both empowered, lovingly held accountable and challenged, but above all, inspired to see being myself as the best pathway to my personal power and creative potential. 10/10 recommend!

I will never forget this book. I loved Lorraine Hansberry ever since I was a child dreaming of becoming a writer. This book gave me so much more to love. What an incredible human, artist, and activist she was. This book touched me in such a real way, I had such deep grief in the chapter about her illness and passing, becoming among the mourners of someone I have known to be deceased as long as I’ve known her name. Imani Perry renders her with such aliveness and love that I was taken fully through her life and brought to that grief and then also the inspiration to pick up my pen and write in honor of Ancestor Hansberry. This was a pleasure to read and learn from. I’ll be thinking about this book for quite some time.
