Historia
One evening, as a young boy growing up in Benghazi, Khaled hears a bizarre short story read aloud on the radio, about a man being eaten alive by a cat, and has the sense that his life has been changed forever. Obsessed by the power of those words—and by their enigmatic author, Hosam Zowa—Khaled eventually embarks on a journey that will take him far from home, to pursue a life of the mind at the University of Edinburgh.

Should be a short story
Revisado: 03-02-25
Beautifully written. Each chapter a short essay on life. Extended a moment in life and its impact for 200 pages more than needed to understand his life dilemma and existential crisis.

Too many unnecessary characters and no logic.
Revisado: 02-16-25
These books were so well performed so I listened to all 3 but all I really wanted was the Sarah story to be resolved. The author spent way too much time on extraneous characters and so many of them were unnecessary and led nowhere. Would not recommend even though I love time travel fantasy in general.

Historia
In the war-torn London of 1939, fourteen-year-old Hazel and five-year-old Flora are evacuated to a rural village to escape the horrors of the Second World War. Living with the kind Bridie Aberdeen and her teenage son, Harry, in a charming stone cottage along the River Thames, Hazel fills their days with walks and games to distract her young sister, including one that she creates for her sister and her sister alone—a fairy tale about a magical land, a secret place they can escape to that is all their own.

Not my favorite Gabriel Alon book
Revisado: 03-21-24
Too much narrative and exposition. Not enough action. Underdeveloped characters. Surprised me as I’ve read and loved all of the others in the series.

Best inside view of North Korean life
Revisado: 05-18-19
A well written, well told and beautifully narrated story. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in stories about other types of lives and one woman’s transcendent success story transforming from her bubble in North Korea and propaganda to her experience of life in the free thinking world.
