Eye opening

I loved this book! We read it in our book club and it was probably one of our best discussions in our 3 year tenure. We live in Western North Carolina in the Appalachian mountains so it was very eye opening and hit close to home. Kingsolver is absolutely phenomenal at character development.

Michelle Williams nailed it

Michelle Williams was the best part of this book. Brittany’s life is incredibly sad. It is clear that she is mentally stunted and behaves a bit like a child. Which is so sad and makes complete sense with how she was mistreated.

Incredibly helpful

I have a nine-year-old girl who is very strong and I am often at a loss on how to best mother her. This book was so incredibly helpful. I want to go back and take each chapter a month at a time, and really work on each of those topics with her. For real it was amazing.

I was so excited about this book and loving it until it all of a sudden became trashy and way too sexually descriptive. It also was crude and disrespectful. I tried to just skip over but I ended up just stopping it completely.
