Historia
Preet Bharara has spent much of his life examining our legal system, pushing to make it better, and prosecuting those looking to subvert it. Bharara believes in our system and knows it must be protected, but to do so, he argues, we must also acknowledge and allow for flaws both in our justice system and in human nature. Bharara uses the many illustrative anecdotes and case histories from his storied, formidable career - the successes as well as the failures - to shed light on the realities of the legal system and the consequences of taking action.

Spectacular!

Preet Bharara is a great story teller and very easy to listen to. The stories are compelling and told without a lot of unnecessary language...something I appreciate. I highly recommend this book.

Historia
David Starr Jordan was a taxonomist, a man possessed with bringing order to the natural world. In time, he would be credited with discovering nearly a fifth of the fish known to humans in his day. When his specimen collections were demolished by lightning, by fire, and eventually by the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, many might have given up, given in to despair. But Jordan? He surveyed the wreckage at his feet, found the first fish that he recognized, and confidently began to rebuild his collection. And this time, he introduced one clever innovation.

Great Listen!
Revisado: 01-25-21
Lulu Miller has done an excellent job weaving a story that starts down a path that leads the listener to unexpected places. The performance was equally interesting and, in the end, I was honestly left with a smile on my face. Great job Lulu!

Historia
From tuberculosis to bird flu and HIV to coronavirus, these infectious diseases share a common origin story: Human interaction with animals. Otherwise known as zoonotic diseases for their passage from animals to humans, these pathogens - both pre-existing ones and those newly identified - emerge and re-emerge throughout history, sparking epidemics and pandemics that have resulted in millions of deaths around the world. How did these diseases come about? And what - if anything - can we do to stop them and their fatal march into our countries, our homes, and our bodies?

Disappointing
Revisado: 01-15-19
I was intrigued about a story set in Tangier but was ultimately disappointed. It was reviewed in the Costco magazine and sounded like it would be good however I felt like returning the book several times. I was particularly disappointed in the character Alice and how weak and feeble she was depicted. I also struggled with the narrator who, when reading the role of Lucy, seemed to end each and every sentence with a slight gasp. Sorry to say I would not recommend this book.

Somehow I missed that this book was a series of short stories. Only the first chapter is about Vampires in the Lemon Grove. The stories we're good but not what I was expecting.
