Historia
For Christians who are struggling to understand what it means to be pious and how to embrace the classic Christian practices of piety, Thank, Praise, Serve, and Obey shows that acts of piety are not simply rules to keep in order to be a "good" Christian, but they are how the new life in Christ is lived out in day-to-day life.
This book explores how to properly hear in the Scriptures our heavenly Father summoning us to the joy and freedom of living and growing as His beloved children through Jesus Christ.

Piety not Pietism - Brilliant!
Revisado: 09-22-21
Pastor Will Weedon is a gift to the body of Christ. In simple, passionate, and Biblical language he points the reader to Christ, the author and perfecter of our faith. With wonderful quotes and explanations from Luther's Small Catechism, Pastor Weedon gives us laypeople practical advice on how we should live in light of the Gospel and our baptism. Thank, Praise, Serve, and Obey is one of those audio resources that I'll reference again and again and happy it lives downloaded to my iPhone. For example, there's a 11:00 chapter titled "Prayers for Meditation on the Eucharist" that would be terrific to listen to, pray along with early Sunday morning before receiving the Lord's Supper. And BTW, the narrator, Tim Dixon, did a super job - great inflection, not distracting, clear, strong and animated as the text dictates. A+

In our culture of personalization, where everything is customizable, Jesus is often reworked into what each individual wants Him to be. Jesus is aligned to a person's agendas and dreams, making it easier for him or her to agree with Him. Will the Real Jesus Please Stand Up?: 12 False Christs aims to address the many incorrect versions of Jesus present in today's culture. Whether Jesus is seen as a patriot, a social justice warrior, a therapist, or a giver of bling, these many false christs diminish the real Christ.

Great Read, Best Story, Challenging and Helpful
Revisado: 07-24-21
"It doesn't matter what WE say about Jesus, what matters is what Jesus says about Himself." (from the book's conclusion). This terrific book exposes our culture/self-made idols of Jesus and points us to the real Jesus as revealed to us in Holy Scripture. The single most influential person to walk the earth, who literally split time in two (BC/AD), asks both Peter and us all "You do YOU say that I am?" Author and Pastor Richard exposes many of the presuppositions we have about Jesus (i.e. false Christs) - how we create a Jesus that meets our own needs - comfort, bling, healing, etc - rather that the real Jesus who fulfills our greatest need - forgiveness and righteousness before God. Truly the Gospel is the best story of them all! I enjoyed how Pastor Richard used stories of encounters with different people to make his theological points - simply, clearly, and powerfully. Great read!

Help catechism students dig deeper. As listeners learn Martin Luther's foundational teachings in the Small Catechism, this volume will encourage them to go further in their doctrinal knowledge by studying the Large Catechism. Written by Luther in 1529, the Small and Large Catechisms provide a clear summary of God's Word on the essentials of the Christian faith. This edition combines the two catechisms and includes the woodcuts found in Concordia: The Lutheran Confessions.

Biblical Truth in Your Ears! Listen and Re-Listen!
Revisado: 06-23-21
I subscribed to audible specifically for this title! Luther's Small and Large Catechisms are timeless truth and theology gold - as relevant and true now as they were when written 500 years ago. The SC takes only about 40 minutes to listen to and absorb. Rev. McCain's narration was balanced, clear, and strong just as you'd expect from a faithful and steadfast Lutheran pastor!
Luther's treatment of Holy Baptism and The Lord's Supper in both the SC and LC are must-listens. Brilliant. Thanks Concordia Publishing House and audible for making this title available.

This audiobook is a third-person retelling of the gospels that brings into account various Old Testament references and contemporary interpretations of those passages by the Jews of Jesus' day. It also brings into account contemporary events throughout the Roman Empire, most especially those directly affecting the Jewish people of Israel at the time, so that the gospel stories take on new life and meaning for the listener.

Descriptive and elegant narrative of the story of Jesus through the eyes and viewpoints of key witnesses. Decent but a bit flat performance with some sloppy mispronunciations.

Historia
Pastor and best-selling author Mark Driscoll believes false identity is at the heart of many struggles - and that you can overcome them by having your true identity in Christ. In Who Do You Think You Are? Driscoll explores the question: "What does it mean to be 'in Christ'?" In the process he dissects the false-identity epidemic and, more important, provides the only solution - Jesus.

Warm, Engaging and Thoughtful Apologetic Work!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, this is a great book for anyone exploring Christian faith or for believers to know what they believe and why they believe it. It's the abridged version so it's elegant, warm and concise
Who was your favorite character and why?
Jesus! The author and perfector of our faith!
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
I never read/listen to abridged versions but say that Pastor Keller did the reading himself. While not a professional "reader" per se, it's great to hear from the author himself
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No because readers should ponder and think on the wonderful proofs and arguments made in the book
Any additional comments?
Check out Timothy Keller's podcast on iTunes for free classic sermons by him at Redeemer Church in Manhattan. Life-changing, God-glorifying, remarkable.
