Historia
Mark Kurlansky's first global food history since the best-selling Cod and Salt; the fascinating cultural, economic and culinary story of milk and all things dairy - with recipes throughout. According to the Greek creation myth, we are so much spilt milk; a splatter of the goddess Hera's breast milk became our galaxy, the Milky Way.

Horrible narration nearly kills Kurlansky
Revisado: 05-15-18
I have been a fan of Mark Kurlansky for many years but this is the first audio book I've experienced. Brian Sutherland's narration is a colorless monotone which leads me to believe that he was thoroughly bored by the topic. With a different narrator, Milk! would have been a thrilling history but Sutherland makes it as interesting as reading a telephone directory. What a shame!

Historia
Deep in the rugged Appalachians of North Carolina lies the cove, a dark, forbidding place where spirits and fetches wander, and even the light fears to travel. Or so the townsfolk of Mars Hill believe - just as they know that Laurel Shelton, the lonely young woman who lives within its shadows, is a witch. Alone except for her brother, Hank, newly returned from the trenches of France, she aches for her life to begin. Then it happens - a stranger appears, carrying nothing but a beautiful silver flute and a note explaining that his name is Walter....

Intriguing story distorted by bad narration
Revisado: 05-08-13
Would you try another book from Ron Rash and/or Merritt Hicks?
Ron Rash-yes. Merritt Hicks-NO
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Merritt Hicks?
Merritt Hicks' interpretation of western North Carolina dialect was an auditory caricature which signified that she was altogether unfamiliar with the mellifluous, indigenous speech of that area. Her attempt with a German accent was even worse suggesting that she did not receive any coaching in the pronunciation of a foreign alphabet. If The Cove is recorded again, Cynthia Darlow would do an excellent job.
Was The Cove worth the listening time?
Until The Cove is recorded with a different narrator, I would not recommend it.
