Historia
After nearly eighteen months at Basgiath War College, Violet Sorrengail knows there’s no more time for lessons. No more time for uncertainty. Because the battle has truly begun, and with enemies closing in from outside their walls and within their ranks, it’s impossible to know who to trust. Now Violet must journey beyond the failing Aretian wards to seek allies from unfamiliar lands to stand with Navarre. The trip will test every bit of her wit, luck, and strength, but she will do anything to save what she loves—her dragons, her family, her home, and him.

Does not disappoint
Revisado: 01-31-25
Spoiler free review. I really love the narrator of these books. I feel all of Violet's feelings through her. I also feel like Onyx storm, despite leaving things unresolved, was much more satisfying that Iron Flame. Personally, Rebecca Yarros's writing style just gets me right in the heart and the gut. I could read almost anything she writes. I know it will be a while until the fourth book, but I will happily listen to this one a few more times!

Historia
Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College-Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky. Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

Incredible top to bottom
Revisado: 11-03-24
Rebecca Yarros transcends the genre of romantasy to reach the same heights as authors like Herbert, Tolkien, and Rowling. Daring, intelligent, and really tuned into complicated human emotions. The narrator is also incredible. The only gripe I have is with the voice of Xaden. This is a must read for any fantasy fan.

Historia
Alex Blackwood is a little bit headstrong, with a dash of chaos and a whole lot of flirt. She knows how to get the girl. Keeping her on the other hand…not so much. Molly Parker has everything in her life totally in control, except for her complete awkwardness with just about anyone besides her mom. She knows she’s in love with the impossibly cool Cora Myers. She just…hasn’t actually talked to her yet.

The meh couple
Revisado: 10-01-24
The book was VERY predictable and the authors did not set up enough chemistry between the two main characters before the HEA. Molly and Alex were just an odd mix. Sure they could be themselves around each other, but that’s hardly romantic. They seemed too different. Alex was also rather mean to Molly for a while. Someone like Molly with severe anxiety at the start likely wouldn’t find Alex dumping all her clothes out of closet or flipping a pancake onto the floor on purpose to be ultimately endearing as the authors portrayed it.

More realistic!
Revisado: 07-14-24
I really enjoyed this novel. I felt the romance was more real than some other similar novels I read. As a female with an advanced degree I appreciated the depiction of sexism and how hard it can be to be taken seriously as a woman.

Historia
On February 17, 2022, Brittney Griner arrived in Moscow ready to spend the WNBA offseason playing for the Russian women’s basketball team where she had been the centerpiece of previous championship seasons. Instead, a security checkpoint became her gateway to hell when she was arrested for mistakenly carrying under one gram of medically prescribed hash oil. Brittney’s world was violently upended in a crisis she has never spoken in detail about publicly—until now.

This is a touching personal account of being held prisoner in Russia. That you Brittney for bringing awareness to Americans being held abroad.

Historia
There may be no tidy solutions or pithy answers to life’s big challenges, but Michelle Obama believes that we can all locate and lean on a set of tools to help us better navigate change and remain steady within flux. In The Light We Carry, she opens a frank and honest dialogue with listeners, considering the questions many of us wrestle with: How do we build enduring and honest relationships? How can we discover strength and community inside our differences? What tools do we use to address feelings of self-doubt or helplessness? What do we do when it all starts to feel like too much?

Becoming was much better
Revisado: 01-24-23
I believe this book is a bit too repetitive to be very helpful. I love hearing Michelle read her own words and there is always thought and heart behind everything she says. However, much of the subject matter was covered in Becoming. I would have liked her to get a little deeper and draw on personal examples about her advice. When she says go high, I don’t think her examples quite go deep enough to inform the reader about how to go high. Pleasant but if you are choosing between this and Becoming go for the latter.
