Disconnect to Reconnect…yes!
Revisado: 11-23-24
I think I’ve lost the ability to truly dream and be present in the way that God intended. Screens are a tool but we could all re-learn how to properly use our tools, ya know? I want to be so present and so able to see and know people. To connect with the world. This book helps put all things into perspective. Thank you, Carlos for going before us and walking with us. This was both heartwarming, funny, brave, silly, kind, and so important! Thank you.

Historia
Among our greatest fears is the dread of what others would think of us "if they only knew" - the parts of our past we hope to forget, the parts of our present we work to conceal. Yet the part we actually do the best job of hiding is not the unsightly debris of our own mess, but rather the stunning beauty of God's grace. The fear that demands we protect this false image at all costs leads us to unwittingly declare a false gospel at every turn. Jamie Ivey finally grew tired of doing that, tired of being too ashamed and insecure to let others see the full extent of what God was capable of doing with our unworthiness. So she quit hiding.

Historia
We know what it means to do good. But in today’s tense and complex world, when topics like political issues, theology, and current events so often divide us, how do we say good? God calls us to speak truth into our communities and relationships, but we all struggle to know when to speak up. We feel intimidated even as we long to engage controversy and division with ease and conviction. How can we know what to say―and when?

I didn’t know how much I needed this and how much I need to reflect on why I don’t speak up. I have to undo some things and this book was showing me that I can do it with grace and dignity as I show up through the hard things for the love of my neighbor and love of God.

Understand the power of ASK—Ask, Seek, Knock—as you examine your prayer life and apply this simple concept from Matthew 7:7. Deb Hopper masterfully weaves her own story from desperation and divorce to hope and healing with biblical principles and Scripture to encourage you to pray. With over 30 years of answered prayer covering everything from cars to careers to children, Deb demonstrates how every concern is worth bringing to God.

Big prayers, simple message.
Revisado: 05-28-24
I started listening to this and hearing Deb’s voice just before Gibson’s passing. It was at the point of the book that she talked about their life. I felt like I knew Gibson but also learned to cling to those prayers for my family and raise an Ebenezer and mark the pages of my own story where I’ve seen Gods faithfulness in my own hard season of grief. I have been losing hope but hanging on to Jesus and Deb’s words through this time.

Historia
Nobody needs telling there isn’t enough time. We’re obsessed with our lengthening to-do lists, our overfilled inboxes, work-life balance, and the ceaseless battle against distraction; and we’re deluged with advice on becoming more productive and efficient, and “life hacks” to optimize our days. But such techniques often end up making things worse. The sense of anxious hurry grows more intense, and still the most meaningful parts of life seem to lie just beyond the horizon.

Imagine hearing your physician tell you that chips and queso contain more nutritional benefits than kale and quinoa. Or opening an envelope that looks like just another bill, and unfolding instead an official document declaring you the sole beneficiary of an anonymous billionaire's estate. In her new book, The Sacrament of Happy, Lisa Harper unveils a similarly extravagant, unexpected surprise, declaring that happiness - just plain feeling happy - is a gift from God that you can unashamedly enjoy.

Historia
Christianity isn’t about following rules, it’s about a relationship. The rise in popularity of this phrase coincides with a growing disinterest and misunderstanding regarding the role of God’s life-giving, perfect law in the Christian life. Rather than the source of joy it was intended to be, the law is viewed as an angry god’s restrictions for a rebellious people.

Kobe gave life and a voice to the things I haven’t been able to say and that I believed no one else would understand. Read it, complete the exercises and if you’re like me, listen to the audiobook as you read each chapter. It really undid some lies and core beliefs I had always had but didn’t know why.

Historia
Nothing gets our attention like an unmade decision: Should I accept the new position? Which schooling choice is best for my kids? How can I support my aging parents? When we have a decision to make and the answer isn't clear, what we want more than anything is peace, clarity, and a nudge in the right direction. If you have trouble making decisions, because of either chronic hesitation you've always lived with or a more recent onset of decision fatigue, Emily P. Freeman offers a fresh way of practicing familiar but often forgotten advice: simply do the next right thing.

Life breathed back into me
Revisado: 10-19-23
First off, who knew Emily was my twin? Not in the outward appearance sense but inside. She is me. This book saw into the depths of who I am and what I am experiencing and I am grateful. God is SO kind. I know it to be so in all of Emily’s chapters.
This book is rich with tools to help declutter your mind and heart, but I am not left overwhelmed by it. I feel freed by it. You will to.

These are crazy times, people. We are more agitated than ever. We’re fighting. Wrestling with big issues. Less connected than ever to one another and to God. It’s a perfect storm: debilitating anxiety, crashing relationships, and forgetting what it feels like to, well, be human. In How to Human, author, speaker, and social-media personality Carlos Whittaker offers a fresh vision for becoming the best versions of ourselves. We can refuse to let disagreements define us. We can say no to becoming upset, rage-filled humans and say yes to fuller, happier lives.

Revisado: 02-23-23
Cannot say enough good about this book. Read it like a friend telling a story, even if you don’t agree (and that’s not the case always for me) you’ll just love the human that Carlos is abs his message. I think out of it all I love his wife Heather more and want her to write a book too! Really though. All generations from now into the end of the ages needs this conversation. You’ll leave better than you found yourself.
