surprisingly charming
Revisado: 03-24-24
Audible original romances are more often misses than hits, but this was such a pleasure to listen to!
The plot was well paced, thought out and accessible.
The characters were, for the most part, believable and likable.
I'm not much of a fan of insta-love, but I'll let this one slide because trauma-bonding is a thing.
overall- worth it.

Surprisingly fresh take on the vampire genre
Revisado: 04-22-22
Some unnecessary sexual content that doesn't support the story, but I guess it's just because it was very male-gaze centric. The female characters seem undeveloped, almost twee, in the hands of the men.
The plot is quite well developed and the book is well written. It would be great if women weren't just one dimensional plot devices, though.
The end seems rushed and should have been developed a bit more.
Narrator is excellent at portraying characters' age as the time line jumps. He does make some interesting intonation choices, though.

Historia
Baxter Zevcenko's life is pretty sweet. He's making a name for himself as the kingpin of his smut-peddling high school syndicate, the other gangs are staying out of his business, and he's dating the girl of his dreams, Esme. But when Esme gets kidnapped, things start to get seriously weird, and the only man drunk enough to help is a bearded, booze-soaked, supernatural bounty hunter who goes by the name of Jackson "Jackie" Ronin.

There are South African narrators! Use them!
Revisado: 02-14-22
I'm sure poor Charlie Human (pronounced he-mun) wrote something worth reading. I'll just never find out by listening to David Atlas butchering the South African accents in this book. My poor ears! It was like listening to Keanu Reeves' British accent in Dracula. Was it that hard to at least try and pronounce some of the names and surnames correctly? South Africa has many talented voice actors. Shame on Audible and Amazon for using a non-native to narrate one of the few South African books in their catalogue that wasn't written before the year 2000.

Historia
It should have been a case like any other: a missing princess, a king willing to pay in gold for her return. But before he realizes it, private investigator Eddie LaCrosse, a slightly shopworn sword jockey with a talent for discretion and detection, is swept up in a web of mystery and deceit involving a brutally murdered royal heir, a queen accused of an unspeakable crime, and the tragic past he thought he'd left behind.

R/menwritingwomen - the whole sub in one book
Revisado: 12-31-20
Gosh. I haven't read a book like this in a long time: a book where the male author insists on describing each and every female character purely by her attractiveness to the male gaze. (I actively try to avoid such drivel).
The women are only there to either be hot and sassy (but sexy) , innocent and vulnerable (but sexy), powerful and unattainable (but sexy) all the while finding our elderly, overweight protagonist irresistible.
If you can look past this pathetic male fantasy, the premise is actually quite creative and the narrator is good.
Overall, not worth your time.

Historia
The hardscrabble folks of Troublesome Creek have to scrap for everything - everything except books, that is. Thanks to Roosevelt's Kentucky Pack Horse Library Project, Troublesome's got its very own traveling librarian, Cussy Mary Carter. Cussy's not only a book woman, however, she's also the last of her kind, her skin a shade of blue unlike most anyone else. Not everyone is keen on Cussy's family or the Library Project, and a Blue is often blamed for any whiff of trouble.

Eye opening
Revisado: 11-05-20
This is a heart string puller. A tear jerker. An eye opener. Do yourself a favour and just read it. I think the narrator contributed heavily to my enjoyment. As a non-American I found it insightful how similar cultures can be.
