Historia
There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Great SciFi
Revisado: 11-04-23
I’m not usually a big sci-fi reader, but this story has elements of mystery and horror as well! I thoroughly enjoyed it, and round myself yelling commentary at the narrator like I was watching an old Mystery Science Theater episode. Fun and thrilling, and fantastic narration.

Historia
A successful film professor and podcaster, Bodie Kane is content to forget her past—the family tragedy that marred her adolescence, her four largely miserable years at a New Hampshire boarding school, and the murder of her former roommate, Thalia Keith, in the spring of their senior year. Though the circumstances surrounding Thalia’s death and the conviction of the school’s athletic trainer, Omar Evans, are hotly debated online, Bodie prefers—needs—to let sleeping dogs lie.

Good Twist, but Tough Topics
Revisado: 03-09-23
I thought this was a compelling story, and although it got a little slow and sluggish towards the end (I almost quit listening, thinking nothing else was going to happen). But it was worth the finish! The first half was more face-paced. There are heavy themes throughout that are great discussion points, although I would have loved an epilogue that paid some homage to the various victims and scenarios mentioned throughout the book.

Historia
On the brink of losing her position as a maid and with no prospects to go on, the offer of a place at Rooksgrave Manor - a house of ill and unusual repute - sounds like a perfect fit for a young woman with Esther’s inclinations. Even better, the invitation comes by the hand of the handsome Dr. Underwood, a delicate gentleman with a ferocious alter ego who knows exactly what he wants from Esther. Upon arrival, the men and the daily decadence of the manor feel too good to be true for a girl of Esther’s station.

Fun, Entertaining, and Sexy
Revisado: 06-21-22
I downloaded this as more of a joke than anything, after having a discussion on romance subgenres involving non-human love interests and reverse harem as a concept. My struggle taking any romance/erotica novel seriously is well known, so a friend recommended this as a way to have the seriousness taken out of the equation from the start! I was incredibly surprised to find the book completely engaging, both in writing style and general story line, and in the quality of the steamy scenes. The narrator was excellent at distinguishing characters and keeping the correct tone. I am surprised by how thoroughly I enjoyed this, and can't wait for the next one!

Not bad, not ground breaking
Revisado: 09-08-21
The narration was wonderful, and I enjoyed the alternating then/now storytelling, which kept me waiting for each timeline to progress. But when the twist came, it didn’t feel particularly surprising.

Historia
Ignorant of civilization and cautioned against its evils, nineteen-year-old Wren and her two sisters, Sage and Evie, were raised in off-the-grid isolation in a primitive cabin in upstate New York. When the youngest grows gravely ill, their mother leaves with the child to get help from a nearby town. And they never return. As months pass, hope vanishes. Supplies are low. Livestock are dying.

Just a meh, for me.
Revisado: 03-29-21
I love a good plot twist, but by the time the big one came around in this novel it felt fairly unbelievable and anticlimactic, in my opinion. Once the big reveal happens, all other pieces of the puzzle fall into place very obviously and my reaction was "oh...okay then." Not nearly as exciting as I wanted it to be, but still an entertaining story, and a good job by the narrators.

Historia
From New York Times best-selling author Stephen Graham Jones comes a novel that is equal parts psychological horror and cutting social commentary on identity politics and the American-Indian experience. Fans of Jordan Peele and Tommy Orange will love this story as it follows the lives of four American-Indian men and their families, all haunted by a disturbing, deadly event that took place in their youth. Years later, they find themselves tracked by an entity bent on revenge, totally helpless as the culture and traditions they left behind catch up to them in a vengeful way.

Not expected, but still haunting
Revisado: 11-12-20
This was gothic literature wrapped in folklore and social commentary. It was so different from what I expected, this being my first book by Stephen Graham Jones, but the creeping sense of dread and bewilderment kept me hooked until the end.
