Historia
Sam and Sadie—two college friends, often in love, but never lovers—become creative partners in a dazzling and intricately imagined world of video game design, where success brings them fame, joy, tragedy, duplicity, and, ultimately, a kind of immortality. It is a love story, but not one you have heard before.

Could have been very good.
Revisado: 10-31-24
This book touched on too many woke elements especially considering the time frame it was told in. The author should have stuck solely to the story and not all the woke ideoms.

Historia
Most people who resist logical thought in baseball preach "tradition" and "respecting the game". But many of baseball's traditions go back to the 19th century, when the pitcher's job was to provide the batter with a ball he could hit and fielders played without gloves. Instead of fearing change, Brian Kenny wants fans to think critically, reject outmoded groupthink, and embrace the changes that have come with the "sabermetric era".

Fun read
Revisado: 02-26-23
I think Brian missed a few points and didn't think about things like the Cy Young award detracting from pitchers winning the MVP or thinking about how people embrace change in any forum. Also, I'm guessing the stats changed since the writing of this book but the case for DiMaggio over Williams in 1941 doesn't hold up as I look at the advanced statistics. But overall and fun read.

Grab a warm blanket. This audiobook puts you right into the action of the life-and-death decisions made by early Antarctic explorers. It is filled with unforgettable stories about the challenges and decisions they faced on the ice. While we might not be pulling sledges across Antarctica in the early 1900s, this audiobook also reveals valuable lessons in leadership, teamwork, and sheer grit and determination that can help all of us make better decisions in our lives today.

Missed opportunity
Revisado: 01-11-23
This book could have been so much more. I heard the author speak live and tell amazing stories about the polar explorers and it compelled me to download this book. I was disappointed the stories didn't go deeper and that the narrator was rather uppity and bland sounding. This book should have had charisma but it doesn't. Overall, the stories are compelling and the feats of these brave souls were incredible. This could have been an epic read instead of an okay one.

Historia
In The Righteous Mind, social psychologist Jonathan Haidt explores the origins of our divisions and points the way forward to mutual understanding. His starting point is moral intuition - the nearly instantaneous perceptions we all have about other people and the things they do. These intuitions feel like self-evident truths, making us righteously certain that those who see things differently are wrong. Haidt shows us how these intuitions differ across cultures, including the cultures of the political left and right.

Relatively disappointing
Revisado: 11-04-21
I think this book missed thr mark. The author spent too much time on the technical weeds building up a case on morality and what it is (I believe he could have done this in half the time) and then when he got to the polarization of America and our political divide he didn't go deep enough and handled it with kid gloves.

A fun story

This is a great little tale and fun to listen to. The narrators do a nice job of taking you into the setting and making you feel as if you're really there.

Not all it's cracked up to be
Revisado: 10-01-19
The narrator of this story is very dry and has a rather unenthralling voice. After hearing the prologue either Evan or Kara should have done the narration. The narrator used little to no inflection and was very dry. I also did not like the sometimes left-leaning spin put on the book. For example, the author routinely mentions climate deniers but completely glazes over that there as been quite a bit of science to disprove our major government-funded study on the subject. The author also states things like scientists cannot be biased because they are scientists yet throughout history science has been marred by self-serving scientists that altered the facts for their own agendas. People are flawed and scientists are after all people too. But overall it tells an interesting story and details how people today can be heavily persuaded based on unscientific arguments.

This was a fun listen. I found myself binging it and often chuckling out loud over the funny quotes of the main character. Hard to believe they cast Tom Cruise for Reacher in the movie. I'll have to check that out.

Entertaining but could have been more
Revisado: 07-24-18
The narrator did a fine job except for his imitations, particularly those of ethnicity. I'd have just rather he read the lines in his own voice. As for the story, it's bet entertaining but a bit far fetched with what felt like some disconnected plot lines. But all in all its a quick listen.
