Historia
With a rare mix of honesty, humor, and compassion, comedian and movie star Russell Brand mines his own wild story and shares the advice and wisdom he has gained through his 14 years of recovery. Brand speaks to those suffering along the full spectrum of addiction - from drugs, alcohol, caffeine, and sugar addictions to addictions to work, stress, bad relationships, digital media, and fame. Brand understands that addiction can take many shapes and sizes and how the process of staying clean, sane, and unhooked is a daily activity.

A seven hours-long speaker meeting

A fantastic supplement for 21rst century living, particularly for those embarking on a 12 step program and who find the usual literature from the '30's a bit dull.

Historia
Sleep is one of the most important but least understood aspects of our life, wellness, and longevity. Until very recently, science had no answer to the question of why we sleep, or what good it served, or why we suffer such devastating health consequences when we don't sleep. Compared to the other basic drives in life - eating, drinking, and reproducing - the purpose of sleep remained elusive.

Thought Provoking
Revisado: 08-28-20
By the end of this book, I was feeling a little unsettled. There was so much bad news about my behavior in my youth, my propensity to sacrifice sleep for other things. And the science shows there's no catching up with it. Still, as with so many other books, the last chapter left me with a glimmer of hope: if I sleep more now, I can still make a good go of this life.
And help me sleep, this book did.

Historia
Sean Carroll, theoretical physicist and one of this world’s most celebrated writers on science, rewrites the history of 20th-century physics. Already hailed as a masterpiece, Something Deeply Hidden shows for the first time that facing up to the essential puzzle of quantum mechanics utterly transforms how we think about space and time. His reconciling of quantum mechanics with Einstein’s theory of relativity changes, well, everything. Most physicists haven’t even recognized the uncomfortable truth: Physics has been in crisis since 1927.

Thought Provoking

I found Mr. Carrol's narration engaging, and his expansive work on an often mystified subject masterful. Several other attempts of mine to understand the latest scholarship on Quantum Physics have left me wanting. Still, this book helped me to understand better the hard science behind the "spookiness" of the quantum world. Great book, highly recommend.

Historia
How did Fidel Castro fool the CIA for a generation? Why did Neville Chamberlain think he could trust Adolf Hitler? Why are campus sexual assaults on the rise? Do television sitcoms teach us something about the way we relate to each other that isn't true? While tackling these questions, Malcolm Gladwell was not solely writing a book for the page. He was also producing for the ear. In the audiobook version of Talking to Strangers, you’ll hear the voices of people he interviewed - scientists, criminologists, military psychologists.

Not at all what I thought it would be
Revisado: 05-07-20
I approached this book on the recommendation of some acquaintances, and based on some assumptions I had about the kinds of books those acquaintances read (chiefly contrived self-help books), I made some assumptions about this book. It is deeply ironic, therefore, that this book exposed the underlying causes and failures (on my part) that led to said assumptions, and exposed them in such a raw, unapologetic fashion that I have found myself in deep introspection over how I approach strangers, where I have fallen into the habit of not defaulting to trust, where I have not considered the coupling of others’ circumstances and actions, and most tragically, where I have grossly overestimated my ability to read and interpret the emotions of others, when the hard scientific reality is that we as humans of varying cultures and backgrounds are grossly inept at doing so. There is nothing quite so humbling as to learn that so much of what I thought was right (in regards to strangers) was wrong. Books such as these, that spark a fundamental rethinking of one’s approach to the world around us, are a rare find, indeed.
Gladwell’s reading is masterful. His presentation, that sounds more like a podcast than an audiobook, is exceptionally engaging. This audiobook is a must-listen.
