A classic story if too short
Revisado: 06-02-23
I wish it embellished on the movie it actually has less content.
I have no complaints other than it's length which is ridiculously short.
I think Campbell Scott is a horrible choice for narrating the story.
This is a story about masculinity and cowboys and he doesn't give either vibe.
I wish there was another one to choose from but I love the movie I love the story and it will suffice

This was a really bad book
Revisado: 11-30-22
I found the premise to be ridiculous.
It was four chapters of why they can't be together and then five chapters of having sex around the clock.
The remaining chapters equally as inept.
It was sloppily written,The pace was inconsistent, these people giving five-star reviews are easily pleased or obviously on some payroll.
The whole premise that gay relationships involve having sex in every room is ridiculous.
Unless you're a very shallow, vapid person there is actual human emotion involved not just how beautiful you are.
I couldn't say enough bad things about this book which was boring and tedious.

Prison changed me, mostly for the better, but it could never erase my love for Tex. Growing up together in foster care he was my one constant, and I hate all the ways I’ve let him down. Now that I’m free my biggest wish is to settle back into our friendship and life in our MC. I know I’ll never have anything more. But the glances Tex keeps shooting me are enough to make me question...is my brother looking at me differently?

Really bad
Revisado: 09-22-22
It could have been a really cool story.
The premise and the narration are ridiculous.
Tex sounds like Santa Claus and like he's 60 years old, took me completely out of.
Spoilers:. If you've been in love with someone your whole life it's not romantic that they are Inside your "entrance" within 10 seconds of professing your love in a hospital?
That's sleazy, gross, not realistic and lazy writing.
I hated this book and I think some of you are too easily impressed.

Very poorly written and overrated
Revisado: 09-20-22
I often have a problem when authors in this genre specifically women think they understand men or how men behave.
Being in a gay relationship isn't swinging from the chandeliers and having implausible sex morning noon and night on a daily basis.
it's about love, caring and friendship and making an emotional connection.
I couldn't connect with either of these characters I thought the story was very amateurish I did enjoy the resolution and the epilogue but if last time was spent on these ridiculous sexcapades and more time developing an emotional center I might have enjoyed it more.
Multiple times I found myself fast forwarding through this book which is never a good sign.
If you're looking for a good book to read there are far superior books from far superior authors, this would not be one of them.

Where is the movie?
Revisado: 09-10-22
if anyone just watched Fellow travelers on Showtime this would be the military version done more wholesome without the politics.
This is the most expansive, sublime and romantic stories I have ever read or in this instance heard.
There are definitely highs and lows but it doesn't have unnecessary angst like some authors like to throw in.
It feels like a whole life almost 50-60 years in one book.
I have listened to this book about eight times and it is probably my favorite ever written.
If you like sleazy, sexy ir salacious you might be disappointed.
If you like love, smoldering passion and a beautiful love story you will not be disappointed
The romance really seems plausible and this would make an amazing movie or a Showtime series.
I think the thing I love the most is this is novel is complete it has a beginning and an end.
Normally a story ends and we're left to our own devices and our imagination unless there is a sequel.
The book starts in their '20s and they end in their '80s not much room left for anything else but you will be so filled with love when this book is over.
I think the author made a mistake and trying to tell all of this story in one book.
My highest recommendation possible.

Tedious, monotonous and way too long
Revisado: 09-04-22
I feel compelled to leave my review after seeing all of the positive recommendations of people that are obviously easily to entertained or in collusion with the author.
This was not a good book, the love story was not viable not realistic and I didn't care for either character.
Straight men don't have epiphanies one day and become gay, polyamorous or bisexual.
This book was preposterous with one of the worst endings I've ever read in literature.
If you're looking for a happy ending look elsewhere, the crap I went through to get to the end to have such a lazy and sloppy executed ending assured me this is the last book I will purchase from this author.

Weber Yates's dreams of stardom are about to be reduced to a ranch hand’s job in Texas, and his one relationship is with a guy so far out of his league he might as well be on the moon. Or at least in San Francisco, where Weber stops to see him one last time before settling down to the humble, lonely life he figures a frog like him has coming.

Disappointing
Revisado: 08-30-22
The two main characters were sweet enough but I didn't buy the whole family dynamic.
It was a very slow story with not a lot of character development.
It wasn't a bad book but the ending I thought was awful I think my least favorite chapter was the last.
I would have liked to have seen these characters in the hands of a more adept and accomplished author.
The narration was good and I enjoyed it.

Absolutely awful
Revisado: 08-17-22
I know that Ms James likes to put all of her protagonists in peril but this was my third book in a row that I did not care for and it will be my last.
I would go so far as to say this was embarrassingly bad.
A book shouldn't give you anxiety and terrify you.
This is not a book about love this is a book about codependence.
Vaughn falls in love with a man with disassociative identity disorder who gives him nothing in return.
I take that back he gives him stress, anxiety and puts him in danger.
Not ONCE does Vaughn get asked how his day was or if he needs anything,it is such a romanticized version of a toxic relationship.
Orin of course is a virgin as a lot of these damaged in need of saving men are in these books.
Over a 2-year span Vaughn goes to hell and back for no redeemable reason that I could see and gets absolutely nothing in return other than someone's virginity which is such a trope and really disgusting.
It's completely unplausible, not realistic and a very unhealthy relationship.
For the people applauding how "authentic" this book is how do you know? Have you dated many people with disassociative identity disorder? unlikely
It took me down a rabbit hole I didn't need to go down.
The ending was nice but this book was awful.
I love the narration but it was over the top and convoluted just as the story was.

I think the second part to this story is better
Revisado: 08-11-22
I understand why but the character of Landon who has terminal cancer is very unpleasant.
if you're reading this you're saying of course he's dying.
The problem is I didn't like him.
He was very cold, non emotive and not terribly friendly so as a reader it was hard for me to get emotionally invested as he only becomes tolerable 3/4 through the book.
Once again I thought opportunities were missed to make this novel more substantive.
Playing some stupid form of twister that involves sex?
I would have liked to have seen them go pick a tree and decorate it and have that memory.
It would have been more appropriate for the holiday season.
This author while competent tends to rely on sex when she doesn't have anything else to write about.
The character of Abel is one of my favorite characters from this author of any of her books and I have read about eight up to this point.
I don't know why he sounds like he's from New York it's a poor attempt at a Montana accent but it works.
His carefree affect and warm, gregarious and effervescent personality more than make up for Landon being a total bore.
I recommend Abel's journey the continuation of the story. but as it stands it was a solid read if not terribly substantive.
The narration as always is top notch even if he can't do a Montana accent.
I also didn't like the end but obviously there was no epilogue because the decision it's made to do a companion book.
But it's a non-ending.

Very pedestrian, not awful but good enough.
Revisado: 08-11-22
I think the representation of autism was done very well I don't think the execution of this relationship was.
I would have liked to have seen love blossom instead of them having sex right away and pretty much all the time.
Instead of making the relationship sweet or endearing and made it fell sleazy.
I think the character of Milo was very precious and I would love to read more about him unfortunately his counterpart was pretty one-dimensional.
I also think the narration was horrible.
Milo sounded too young and this author lacks a lower register and while he does try to differentiate voices some of the men don't get as low as I think they needed to.
I'm also not a big fan of epilogues that jump years and head and wrap up a 7-hour book in 7 minutes it felt rather force and rather rushed.
I wish the author would have spent less time with graphic sex and bodily fluids and more time cultivating this relationship which could have been something special instead of something just okay and not terribly believable.
