Historia
Margaret Easton needs a husband, and she needs one now. Her parents are convinced that only a European will do, but Margaret wants nothing more than to stay in England. The trouble is that there is only one man Margaret can think of, or rather, one she cannot forget, and he wouldn’t do as a husband at all. Then she finds herself in his care unexpectedly, and her hunt becomes even more complicated than she could have ever imagined.

What happened?
Revisado: 03-05-25
I was intrigued by the synopsis of the book and it started out pretty well. I liked what I was learning about the main characters - it was a little rough and inconsistent in some places, but not enough to bother me. Until the last half of book - suddenly it changed completely! There was no rhyme or reason for what was happening to her or why she couldn’t get herself out of the situation. I thought she was becoming stronger, but suddenly she had no backbone at all! And he literally abandoned her and couldn’t figure out how to help her? The male villain is “taken care of” off stage and heard of no more, and the female villain is shrugged aside with no satisfying denouement. Shazam! Everything is wonderful! The epilogue isn’t even that great because there’s no change in either character. Waste of time and no desire to read the next book.

Eh, it was okay
Revisado: 01-11-25
Reworking of the past series of Arcane and some Harmony stories. Nothing really original or interesting. But it did help pass the time while I was sick. The narrator was not that great, a strong step above AI reader, but with about as much richness as a business report.

Nice story, terrible narrator
Revisado: 11-23-24
The story was a nice addition to the series but I’m so sick of hearing breathless, overly dramatic narrators! Especially this one. She almost ruined the entire book for me. I’d much rather read it than listen to it again.

Historia
A summer at his grandparents' South Dakota ranch is not 11-year-old Cooper Sullivan's idea of a good time. But things are a bit more bearable now that he's discovered the neighbor girl, Lil Chance, and her homemade batting cage. Even horseback riding isn't as awful as Coop thought it would be. Each year, with Coop's annual summer visit, their friendship deepens from innocent games to stolen kisses, but there is one shared experience that will forever haunt them: the terrifying discovery of a hiker's body.

Good narration, story meh
Revisado: 11-06-24
I really enjoy Nick Podehl as a narrator, but this book was a waste of his time and talent. The female MC left me cold - no real growth as a person and very self- centered. The male MC deserved was better, but still so-so. Their personal storyline was contrived and the villain even more so. I lost my ability to set aside my disbelief about a third of the way through the book and basically skipped chapters until the end - which was totally unbelievable. Don’t waste your money on this one. And the fact that Amazon won’t allow me to return it just ticks me off even more!

For five grand a month and a million-dollar chaser, Roger Mulligan didn't care how crazy the old geezer was. All he had to do was keep Joseph Perry Shackleford alive and keep him from squandering the estate for a year. But they didn't tell him about the pixies.

Not What I Expected
Revisado: 05-28-24
I wasn’t sure what I was going to get with this book, and kept expecting something to jump out of the closet or bullets to fly, but instead found myself caught up with Roger’s daily routine, his growth as a character and a butler. I fully enjoyed the story even as I kept wondering why I was so obsessed with it. A very good narrator helped put this on my favorites list!

Historia
It's not the first time Immortal Guardian Richart d'Alençon has saved a human life from eternal damnation. Usually, he moves on, a nameless savior like a ghost in the night. But this time he can't seem to forget the woman who rewarded him with a sensuous kiss after he rescued her from a trio of vampires. While Richart knows that loving a human can only bring trouble, the taste of forbidden lust is too great to resist.

Terrible Narrator
Revisado: 01-07-24
I enjoyed the story when I read it, but the narrator ruined the audiobook. Her accents were totally wrong and she couldn’t even say all the characters names correctly. How difficult is it to say “Bastion” which is short from the ENGLISH name Sebastian, without adding some weird accent? Total mess.

Historia
Carlin Reed lives in fear, off the grid, moving from place to place. So Battle Ridge, Wyoming, a small town in the middle of nowhere, seems like a good place to lie low for a while. But after becoming cook and housekeeper to cattle rancher Zeke Decker, Carlin suspects that she’s made her first mistake. Rugged, sexy, and too distracting for his own good, Zeke is pure temptation mixed with something deep and primal that makes Carlin feel almost safe. Soon things are getting way too hot in the kitchen.

Good Story, Poor Narrator
Revisado: 11-26-23
I enjoyed the story, although it was too predictable, but the narrator was stilted, mechanical and about as entertaining as a plot of sand. Why do these publishers keep allowing D-list beginners read A+ writers?

Historia
Lord Elliott Mayfield sees the new generation of his family moving in the same direction of bad matches and scandalous relationships as the last. In hopes to change their course, he establishes a "marriage campaign" to motivate them to improve themselves through making respectable matches. Peter, Elliott's eldest nephew, thinks the entire idea is ridiculous. A widower with two young daughters, he simply needs a governess, not a wife. Julia Hollingsworth has the credentials and the experience, but is too young and pretty for such a job. So why can't he stop thinking about her?

Slow, slow, slow
Revisado: 08-10-23
I read the summary and knew that there would be two romances, not one. However, after the first ten chapters, I started skipping ahead and found I hadn’t missed a thing - even skipping ten chapters at the last.
I wasn’t impressed with the supposed romantic lead’s instant willingness to get rid of her, his so-called honor came across more as spinelessness and the “repentance/forgiveness” scene took exactly ten minutes with both mother and daughter, and mother and old lover. I really dislike books that depend on misunderstandings that could be resolved in four chapters rather than twenty-four. This was a short story that was drawn out to be a novel and failed. I’d rather have read the short story without all the angst, and a bit more wit. (Bath Tangle by Georgette Heyer)

Historia
Grace Isabel MacKenna has a hundred things to do today. Killing someone isn't one of them. It is supposed to be a quick visit to Boston for the Buchanan anniversary party, then on to Scotland to collect an inheritance. She checks into her hotel and then decides to go for a brisk walk. But after getting lost, she ends up with a wounded man stumbling into her arms—and his shooter coming after them both. When she fires back in self-defense, she doesn’t expect him to drop dead.

Ditzy blonde, obnoxious male, no real development
Revisado: 07-25-22
I have read almost every book Julie Garwood has written and after these last few titles, I’m ready to give up. The “heroine” obviously has more hair than brains and no backbone. The “hero” is obnoxious, cruel and never apologizes for the pain he knowingly causes. Neither character shows any real development and, other than constantly having inner dialogue about how hot the other one is, there wasn’t any real foundation for their supposed love. I’ll be returning it ASAP. I tried skipping to the last two chapters and couldn’t even make it through that! Not worth a credit.

Great story
Revisado: 12-03-21
I started reading Georgette Heyer when I was young, and was thrilled to find almost all her books are available as audiobooks now. This story is delightful and Clifford Norgate (although I was unsure of a man reading a romance) did a good job. It was a joy to be reunited with this book and Georgette Heyer again. Sit back and prepare to be entertained!
