Very good narrator and the Story does not disappoint. A worthwhile use of my credit and I will try Damion Hunter’s other series Shadow of the Eagle for my next listen.

Short and Soft Winter

The sound engineering was solid but the story was lacking with callow characters. One day a character is brattish teenager and then literally the next a seasoned vampire hunter. Even the vampires were tame. In opinion, the story and characters needed more depth, but instead this was covered up with 3D sound engineering. Not recommended unless you have nothing else to listen to.

I couldn’t finish

The writing style is odd and not at all entertaining. I tried and couldn’t the humor believe me I tried . The only real positive is that The narrator is good. I rarely out right give up but I just could not continue.

Avoid unless recovering from covid booster

I got this title because I thought it might be amusing and a way to get through the downtime of the covid booster. The story was poor and not funny. The narration was good. I think the best character was the succubus girlfriend and I like her wanted to kill the main character Monster. If you are planning to listen while lucid avoid this title. But if you are going to be sick and possibly delirious it just might do the trick.

Absolutely worth the listen

I have been hesitating over this title for a few months now because of a few negative reviews, and after my wife threw her back out, I needed another audiobook to occupy my mind while I picked up all the slack so she could rest and recover and not feel like she had to cook or help our daughter or do anything at all but rest and relax. I am glad I did. The story is enjoyable and Will Wheaton's performance is masterful. If he read the policies and procedures and academic proposals I have to read all the time, life and work would be so much the better for it. The book isn't going to change your life or impart any deep lessons and ethical considerations but it will help you pass a few hours and make whatever projects you have going on so much more enjoyable. So if you need something to listen to while cooking dinner, cleaning, commuting to work or doing projects this is a good listen. And if you are curious, yes, I did get the second volume in the series.

If like me you were hoping for a Battlestar Galatica type listen avoid this title. The only comparison is that this title is a super carrier capital ship like BSG. Unless you want poorly written plot, characters, enemies, and battle scenes, skip and use your credit elsewhere. I was even disappointed in Boyet’s narration. I have listened to Boyet in BV Larson, Undying Mercenaries series and enjoyed his narration, Either the plot and characters could not be salvaged by his narration or he just was having an off day. I am going to say it is probably a bit of both. I am not even going to finish. I am as disappointed in myself for selecting as I am in this title.

You can probably live without it

The overall message "The SEAL" seems to impart throughout the workouts and the 31 days of training. You have to move outside your comfort zone to improve. The author does a good job of narrating and despite his and his wife's affluent lifestyle where they clearly do not need to work, he does work and works hard and he clearly demonstrates that it is possible to incorporate the seemingly impossible such as the SEAL's workouts into a day and work day.
I didn't find this book nearly as humorous as I expected, which was quite frankly why I chose it. After 47 yrs and 3 reconstructive surgeries, I don't care what SEAL says, I'm not going to embrace the pain because I have earned it. those days are behind me. So, I wasn't expecting to be inspired into a 31 day intense PX90 or Insanity workout, but I was hoping maybe for a bit of inspiration and a little more enjoyment to the story. If we use the expression "nothing ventured, nothing gained" as our measurement for the book, I'd have to say, while something was ventured, I did gain a new book into my audible library that I won't listen to again.

The angels share

Absolutely excellent. The narration, the history and social context all were superbly done. I don’t even drink bourbon although the Laphroaig Scottish Whiskey I do enjoy is a close cousin. You don’t have to be a Bourbon drinking to enjoy the tale. I would suggest pairing this with Michael Pollan‘s “In Defense of Food”.

Good zombie fun

If COVID-19 quarantine has you looking for a little end of the world distraction then turn on the Undead and let the zombie apocalypse inspire you to listen while doing yard work, cleaning the house, fixing dinner or just to keep your mind from going numb while working from home. I recommend you start off with the FREE short as an introduction to the story, author and narrator. Howie and Dave are enjoyable characters.
Some of the reviews of this series critique the author for creating a zombie virus with some semblance of being self aware. Don't let this bother you, In fact, why should it. No knows why a zombie is the way that is so its a nice change and reasonable direction.
The story is good, the narrator is excellent and entertainment well worth the credit. I listened to and enjoyed the first three books in the series, plus the free short, which is how I found the series in the first place.

I loved these books as kid. So I was happy to find all three volumes in one audiobook. BUT the combination of the writing and the poor narration really make this. If you want to relive the story from your youth you are better off with a different narrator.
