I love the whole series. And while this one isn't my favorite, it's still a great read.

Declan Winters does a freaking fantastic job. Even though Kelly had to change narrators mid series, Declan steps up to the plate and brings it all to the table. His inflection, emotion, and accents are on point.

All in all, a really enjoyable read.

E.M. Lindsey does their usual bang-up job portraying flawed characters finding the good in each other. I love the way they almost always include some type of disability in one or both of the MCs. This isn't just for representation, it's educational to the rest of us who don't live with or have exposure to people with disabilities.

I think I would have enjoyed this story more if I'd read it instead of listened to it. I know John Solo has a huge following, but I'm just not a fan. I usually don't mind listening to his narration and can ignore the things that bother me, he's just not a favorite of mine. However, his reading threw me out of the story too often in this book. His accents were horrible and either over emphasized or not emphasized enough, sometimes in the same scene. And the voice he uses for the 'big' guy is the same voice he uses for the 'not-so-smart' guy. He simply doesn't have the range of voices that I'm used to from other narrators.

Kelly brings us another great novel based around the Wrecked family.

Jake and Jean-Pierre are both lonely, despite their many friends. They've danced around their attraction for quite a while. Jean-Pierre is settling into his realization that he's gay, and Jake struggling with his recovery and PTSD. Jean-Pierre wants only what's best for Jake and is willing to wait as long as he needs to, luring Jake in like a skittish colt. Jake is not sure he's worthy of love, convinced no one out there is going to want all his baggage.

When they finally come together it is sweet and incendiary. It's not an easy road, but they work it together and come out stronger.

John Solo does his usual fantastic job with this reading. I enjoy his accents and his ability to differentiate between characters with inflection and voice.

Sanctuary was the first book I read by Kelly Fox. What a great introduction to a quirky and loving cast of characters.

Combat veteran Nick Martinez is half-owner of a gym for vets called Wrecked. Grouchy Nick has his own guilt to deal with and when beautiful but too-thin Elijah walks in for a job interview Nick is positive he's not going to hire Elijah. During the interview Nick throws him a challenge he's sure to fail. Elijah is desperate enough for the job to pull it off. Elijah has his own secrets though.

The push and pull between these two is sweet. And when they finally come together the heat is off the charts.

John Solo does his usual excellent job narrating this story with clear voices and just enough inflection to make the characters come alive. This is definitely on my reread/relisten list.

Kelly has a knack for writing well rounded characters that suck you into their world. Lazare and Remy are no exception. Top this adorable story with Blake's melting New Orleans drawl... I melted.

I enjoy enemies to lovers and forced proximity tropes, and this sweet story has that in spades. Kelly gilds the Lilly with a lively cast of characters as found family, some super hot steamy love, and a great subplot that leaves room for more stories with these characters. I can't wait to see what comes next.

Lily Morton Does it Again

Another winner from Lily Morton.

With her book The Mysterious and Amazing Blue Billings, Lily broke away from her usual contemporary romcoms and dipped her feet into paranormal romance. In her follow-up novel, The Quiet House, she brings Blue, his boyfriend Levi, and a few other beloved characters from the first book, on another grand adventure into the paranormal. This time someone from Blue's past makes an offer he can't refuse. This book pushes the definition of romance since the main characters are already a couple, but it does explore their relationship and their uncertainties with each other and themselves. In usual Lily style, the steam is hot and sweet.

While this book has some nail biting moments, I will say that it was not nearly as frightening as the first book and I was able to listen to it after dark. For a bit. With the lights on.

Joel Leslie is no less than stellar, but then again, is he ever?

Small Town Romance With a Mystery

Revisado: 08-16-21

I will say upfront, this book is not a standalone. While it does not leave you on a cliffhanger, it does leave significant questions unanswered.

Prosper Woods is the small town we all wish existed. On the surface it's like any other small town - don't blink as you drive through or you'll miss it. Look a little closer though, and you'll find all sorts of shifters blending in, or trying to. The little snippets from the local newspaper that head up each chapter are not only funny, but give a glimpse of just how well, or not so well, the shifters are blending in.

In True Knight we meet Vincent and Romeo, newcomers to Prosper Woods, and we get to see the beginning of their love story. In True Mate they are a confirmed couple. I was a little sad that there was not more of their romance on the page. They went from 'oooh you're hot, let's hook up' to 'I love you, you're my mate' in record time, without showing the reader much of the push and pull that we love so much in a romance novel. There is plenty of heat, *fans self* I just felt that we didn't get much in the romance department. The world building is well done and the cast of characters is large without being overwhelming - enough to make the town believable, and the introduction of the mystery that will carry over into the next book is well set up. Altogether, it was a fun romp and I'm looking forward to listening to the next one.

John Solo, as usual, narrates this book beautifully.

True Knight is the prequel to the series where we meet Vincent and Romeo, the two main characters that carry through the books. Vincent is a vampire with an antiques store, and Romeo is the new town Sheriff. Both of them are new to Prosper Woods so we are introduced to the town through their eyes. In this book we get to see their romance develop as Romeo has his worldview shifted. Literally.

John Solo, as usual, narrates this book beautifully.

Fun Fling Turns into More

Another low-angst romance in the Significant Brothers series. Two ambitious men. Two careers that keep them from forming serious relationships, or so they tell themselves. They have a fling knowing it won't develop into more. Then an accident puts them in close proximity. I enjoyed each of them realizing that they had something to offer in a relationship. The author developed the characters organically, it didn't seem rushed or unauthentic. It was sweet watching them stumble around their feelings while building something together. Still unimpressed with the narrator. Wonky inflections and flat reading made me almost want to read the book but not listen to it. It also seems he has a limited variety of 'voices' for characters.

A Sweet Low-angst romance

Grumpy zoo vet Blain and preternaturally happy artist Falcon make a sweet couple. They're different enough to add tension to their fledgling relationship. A little misunderstanding and a pinch of self-doubt add conflict and make this a sweet, low-angst romance. It's well written with realistic dialogue. Falcon's sister's wedding scene is a little heart wrenching and a touch funny, and totally believable. I was not at all impressed with the narrator. His pace and diction were good, but he lacked real inflection, sometimes making sentences mean something else because of poor inflection. It didn't really throw me out of the story, but it was still confusing sometimes. All in all, a it was a nice read.
