This book is a ridiculously painful experience.
While Hannah is a brilliant writer, the twists and turns in this book play with your emotions too much. It reminds me of when I watched Manchester by the Sea and afterwards felt as though my real family members died. I appreciate her writing capabilities and learning about life in Alaska but the novel was too long and made me feel too upset.

The story was mildly interesting but highly repetitive. The storyline shifted between the perils of being a working mother, the troubles of being a female on Wall Street and trying to balance life. It was hard to warm up to Belle as she made her life choices.

This novel starts out as any ordinary suburban story only to lift you up and then drop you into sadness and then bring you back to joy and then peace. Very well done.
