Determination and Strength, keys to growing and succeeding
Revisado: 06-17-24
I am not a hairstylist or an IBE anything. I came to know the IBE name a few years ago when researching sewn in beaded extensions for my own hair. McKenzie had something in her, a sparkle and sass, in her videos on SM and her YouTube channel. I obsessed over her perfectionism and laughed at some of her silliness while showing what her method could do (installing a weft on a man’s short beard).
So when she announced she had her book coming out while I was feeling a slump in my own business, I knew it needed to be devoured.
Her story is so much like my own in many aspects, especially the surprising health issues surfacing due to stress. Listening to her story as she talks about picking up and moving forward even in her hardest of times has given me extra motivation in my own work.
This was an enjoyable listen with many reminders for me: to check myself on my current path, listen to my body and take action on what could be the root cause of issues, and to keep pushing forward with my dreams.
I really enjoyed hearing it from her own voice, and can’t wait for the next one!

Love Adam and Mark

It was interesting, I loved hearing the history of things (like how they figured out blood pressure) and just the general info.
It feels like it was a podcast, and they put a few episodes together to create an audio book. Maybe that’s exactly what they did? Ha!
Overall it was fine, not quite as funny as Adam’s first book but still very interesting and helped me get through another work week.

On June 5, 2002, 14-year-old Elizabeth Smart, the daughter of a close-knit Mormon family, was taken from her home in the middle of the night by religious fanatic, Brian David Mitchell and his wife, Wanda Barzee. She was kept chained, dressed in disguise, repeatedly raped, and told she and her family would be killed if she tried to escape. After her rescue on March 12, 2003, she rejoined her family and worked to pick up the pieces of her life.

Wonderful book, amazing performance by Elizabeth!
Revisado: 04-07-18
Living in Utah and being a few years older than Elizabeth, this story was one we closely followed in the news. When Elizabeth was discovered/found i think most Utahans dropped what they were doing and stood in front of their TVs in complete shock and rejoice.
I was slightly surprised by the fire and sass that encompasses Elizabeth. Her sarcastic wit and strength make this a book you want to read or listen to in one sitting. Her “motto” during captivity of doing whatever it took to survive and keep her family safe is inspiring, especially considering she was a somewhat naive 14 year old. I wonder if her innocent knowledge of the world helped her continue on, maybe at times not knowing how bad things could actually get, therefore saving her more worry and anxiety. Elizabeth’s notes during some chapters with “now let me make this very clear” make me think her and her family’s actions were scrutinized way too much in the media and she felt she had to stand up to those awful questions. But she totally clears up any questions a reader may have about her state of mind or her family.
This story is a wonderful one, despite the extreme trauma she experienced. She is full of fire and strength, a true testament to her parents and upbringing. Her mother’s advice near the end is advice I think all of us can apply to our lives. I am looking forward to listening to her newer book, and think she’s a woman to watch through the years, as there is no doubt everything she touches will turn to gold and she will be a leader in many ways the rest of us can’t.

AWFUL Narration - Just buy the book instead!

What disappointed you about My Lovely Wife in the Psych Ward?
The narrator is awful! Sounds like a mix between a 90's male computer voice and Colin Farrell. He rushes through the story SO fast, as if he's only doing this for a paycheck and doesn't care about the end result. His many voices are terrible, and even more hurried and rushed in their delivery. This is the worst audio book I've heard, the narrator almost gives off an attitude as if he hates the story, and almost gives the author a whiny voice, as if he only cares about himself and what is happening to him, instead of with a caring tone as the book should have been read.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The narration is so bad I can't focus on the characters except for the narrator's awful delivery of every character.
How could the performance have been better?

What character would you cut from My Lovely Wife in the Psych Ward?
The narrator? ;)
Any additional comments?
DO NOT waste your money or credits on this. Just buy the book, it will be so much better.
