But then the former local sheriff, Lyle Voight, arrives with a desperate plea: Lyle’s daughter Sandy and his six-year-old grandson Pip have disappeared. Lyle’s certain Sandy's ex-husband Reed is behind it, but the new sheriff is refusing to investigate. When Max reluctantly looks into their disappearance, he too becomes convinced something has gone very wrong.

Great suspense, drama and all-around great story. Something I will listen to again in a few years. Allen Eskens is one of my favorite authors and he didn't disappoint.

Historia
Hana Babic is a quiet middle-aged librarian in Minnesota who wants nothing more than to be left alone. But when a detective arrives with the news that her best friend has been murdered, Hana knows that something evil has come for her, a dark remnant of the past she and her friend had shared. Thirty years before, Hana was someone else: Nura Divjak, a teenager growing up in the mountains of war-torn Bosnia—until Serbian soldiers arrived to slaughter her entire family before her eyes. The events of that day thrust Nura into the war, leading her to join a band of militia fighters.

Loved this story and the narrator
Revisado: 03-11-25
This kept me interested the whole time. I could hardly stop listening. Allen Eskens always delivers. I seldom write reviews, but this is a good book. I've been listening to so many "so so" books lately. It was refreshing to get a good story all the way around.

What happened to Emily Sutton-Smith?
Revisado: 11-19-24
This book sounds like a Lifetime Movie production. Not a fan of multiple narrators. Emily Sutton-Smith only narrated a small portion at the beginning. I enjoyed the 1st book in the series. However, I will be returning this one and won't be listening to any other audio books with multiple narrators. This seems to be where Audible is heading and I'm not a fan.

5 hours in and I'm giving up
Revisado: 09-30-24
So boring, long winded and ridiculous. The story goes on for ever and ever. Could probably have been told in a couple of hours.
I'm throwing in the towel as I don't care what happens at this point.

Historia
Most all tarot books present card-by-card interpretations as well as an instruction on how to read spreads. This book takes the next logical step inward by presenting the art of reading in a workbook format and helps you learn to interpret the cards intuitively. The book falls into two parts. The first part concerns learning about the cards and includes exercises for each card that teaches you to trust your interpretation of the card. The second part helps you develop that ability, a skill that Reed calls “intuition”.

I listened to about half of it and will be returning this book. I was looking for a nugget or something new to add to my learning arsenal. I didn't find it with this book. its more of the same as in most decent Tarot books. Great book for beginners.

It's an OK ending to the Kiss River series
Revisado: 08-19-24
I could do without the bisexual relationship thrown in to meet with the gender BS going on in our society. So many authors seem to think that we need this jammed in our face. This entire series is like a soap opera. Everyone is promiscuous and different baby daddies at every turn. I just hope there isn't a sex scene between the 2 dudes before the end of the book. I usually enjoy Diane Chamberlains books because of the drama, mystery and that the sex scenes aren't so overdone till they're creepy. After this one, I will be taking a break from these types of books.

Historia
When human bones are found beneath an old chapel in the woods, evidence suggests the remains could be linked to the decades-old case of missing teen Annalise Jansen. Homicide detective Jane Munro—pregnant and acutely attuned to the preciousness of life—hopes the grim discovery will finally bring closure to the girl’s family. But for a group of Annalise’s old friends, once dubbed the Shoreview Six by the media, it threatens to expose a terrible pledge made on an autumn night forty-seven years ago.

Too Long and drawn out
Revisado: 07-21-24
I usually love Loreth Anne White's books, but this one was way too long. Some of the narrator voices were just awful as well. The ending seemed rushed and even though a twist I didn't like it. It just didn't seem to match the story that I listened to for 11 hours. When the female bones were discovered the explanation of the bones were female but not what the person may have been gendered socially? Really who cares. Female bones are female bones. I doubt very seriously that a medical examiner would have said that. Such a turn off for me. I listen to audio books for a good story and was disappointed with this one.

Revisado: 07-02-24
I've listened to several of her books. I was so disappointed with this one. The female narrator sounded so juvenile like over acting. The sex scenes were way too much. If you like Lifetime movies sex and romance, you'll love this one. Right down to "soft balls on my skin" just yuck! I fast forwarded past the main sex scene but there was so much of it throughout the book. It was gag worthy. Some books I listen to over and over again if they're good. This isn't one of them.
