It was interesting to become part of a family with the trials and joys of having a child with autism. I was kind of surprised that the cause of the autism was being blamed on vaccines. This was stated several times. This book may have come out before vaccines were disproved as the cause of autism in hundreds of studies. All in all,the story was clever and kept me interested. The ending was satisfying in that I was glad that it was neither of the brothers who caused the death.

Historia
When Hitler’s armies occupied Italy in 1943, they also seized control of mankind’s greatest cultural treasures. As they had done throughout Europe, the Nazis could now plunder the masterpieces of the Renaissance, the treasures of the Vatican, and the antiquities of the Roman Empire. On the eve of the Allied invasion, General Dwight Eisenhower empowered a new kind of soldier to protect these historic riches. In May 1944 two unlikely American heroes—artist Deane Keller and scholar Fred Hartt—embarked from Naples on the treasure hunt of a lifetime, tracking billions of dollars of missing art, including works by Michelangelo, Donatello, Titian, Caravaggio, and Botticelli.

I choose this book before taking a trip to Italy. It was enlightening and I will appreciate my trip more knowing what it took to save some of the artwork that I might see.

I was riveted to the story but couldn’t believe that the tragedies just kept coming. They were, however, convincing due to the settings and circumstances.

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Society’s inequalities
Revisado: 08-09-24
There was inequality in the workplace as well an in the home. This book brought those problems to the surface and seemed to cover them all. Institutions were brought out of the shadows and were made to face some of the darkness of their past. This book forces you to look at the inequalities in society and to hopefully notice some current changes in the right direction.

It is a refreshing account of someone who fights a powerful system to tell the truth about what they know. At such a young age Cassidy Hutchinson shows a lot of courage and patriotism.

Fine story of a life.
Revisado: 11-16-23
Every life is different and the life of Carole King was definitely that. I never knew about her years away from the lime light but I admire her decision to get away from the rat race and really live in a different and unique way, even if it was only for a while. It made me realize the freedom one has when money is not an issue. I enjoyed her singing in the book. It was realistically portrayed, and she always admitted that she didn’t have the greatest voice. Her success in writing and performing is a testament to what hard work and perseverance can accomplish. You go girl!!!
