By far the best comprehensive history of the Middle Ages. An amazing accomplishment from this distinguished author.

I’ve now listed to this ebook three times, and it gets better every single time. If you just read this one time, it can’t possibly do what it’s supposed to do: to transform you into a courageous person. Someone who picks the courageous choice, no matter the consequences. And someone who is imbued with the feeling that this is what matters.

I’m now starting to listen for the FOURTH time. Because it’s clear to me that the more you listen to this book, the more of an impact it’ll have.

Also. I ordered a signed copy of this book but it’s taking ages to arrive so I don’t have much of a choice but to listen. But that as an aside. Ha!

A timely and necessary book: a new standard work

As a fan of Ryan's work, I was looking forward to this title. Ryan did not disappoint. Courage Is Calling is a fantastic work - a standard work, really, about what courage is, how it should be used, and why it is such an important virtue. Actually, why it's one of stoicism's four virtues.

Ryan uses historical example after historical example to explain, point by point, what courage is, what difference it makes, how it should be used. It is EXTREMELY inspiring - and more than that, there's a lot of wisdom in it too. It's not just a "pep talk." It's much more that. It really is a historical and philosophical explanation and collection of heroism. Profiles In Courage for the 21st century, and based on Stoicism as a philosophy.

This book will guide me for years to come. It is already guiding me now. As a business owner, there are hard decisions I have to make. Decisions I've been putting off. Courage Is Calling gives me the a) courage to make those decisions and b) the right approach to use that courage to make the right decisions.

That's such an important point Ryan makes here; it's not just courage for courage's sake. There's heroism. There's valor. There's thinking you're courageous, but actually you're being stupid.

I don't leave an Audible review very often, but I took the time to do so here, because it's truly freaking brilliant and because I am CONVINCED that it'll help many, many people.

Is there 'nothing' that can be improved? Yes, there is. Ryan's a good narrator, but I felt that in this audiobook, especially compared to some of his other narrating work, he doesn't perform as strongly as he can. It's still good - but not excellent. So that's a point of attention for next time.

I enjoyed this audiobook tremendously. The individual composers don’t get a lot of attention, but that’s logical in what’s clearly meant as to be an introduction into classical music. It does, however, have an amazingly wide scope: all major movements are included, from 1400 years ago up till the present. To me, it was most endearing and enlightening. Those who want to get started listening to classical music are smart to get this audiobook, because it’ll help them find composers and styles they’ll enjoy.

This is truly one of the best books ever written on any American president. Jon Meacham paints a portrait of the full man Thomas Jefferson, including his many virtues and vices. Perhaps the most enlightening aspect of it, though, is that he is one of the few authors who understand and see through Jefferson’s peculiar combination of idealism and pragmatism, which may very well make him the most American... American president of all 45 presidents.

It’s a fantastic listen. Narrator Edward Herrmann does a brilliant job.

Vishen Lakhiani has succeeded in writing the number one self development book — ever. It’s truly and utterly complete. He helps you help yourself become healthy, energetic, happy... he focuses on life in ALL its different aspects. Most books focus on one aspect. Lakhiani does not. This is as holistic an approach to self improvement as I have ever seen. And is all backed by science.
