Poor quality recording but good story
Revisado: 01-25-22
I love Thomas Perry and I love Jane Whitefield, but the quality of this recording was poor. I’m not sure if it was the editing but it seemed to skip. I still enjoyed it, but I was not impressed with the production.

Historia
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

Amazing and heartbreaking
Revisado: 11-20-18
This was far and away the best memoir I’ve ever read/listened to. It was beautifully written and Julia Whelan was pitch-perfect. It felt like I was sitting in a room with a friend, hearing her story and crying with her as she told it. The writing was amazing, the story compelling and the end filled with hope. I loved every minute of it.

Historia
Pete Banning was Clanton's favorite son, a returning war hero, the patriarch of a prominent family, a farmer, a father, a neighbor, and a faithful member of the Methodist church. Then one cool October morning in 1946, he rose early, drove into town, walked into the church, and calmly shot and killed the Reverend Dexter Bell.

Very disappointing
Revisado: 11-16-18
I was very disappointed with this book. I thought the quality of the production was good and the narrator was great but I almost stopped listening to it once and now that I finished it, I wish I had.

Historia
Amelia Sachs is hot on the trail of a killer. She's chasing him through a department store in Brooklyn when an escalator malfunctions. The stairs give way, with one man horribly mangled by the gears. Sachs is forced to let her quarry escape as she jumps in to try to help save the victim. She and famed forensic detective Lincoln Rhyme soon learn, however, that the incident may not be an accident at all, but the first in a series of intentional attacks.

Excellent story and great narration
Revisado: 03-21-16
I just finished The Steel Kiss and really enjoyed it. Deaver consistently delivers and I like that. I also really enjoyed Eduardo Ballerini's narration. He is pitch perfect -- not overly dramatic, no odd emphatic quirks or weird pronunciations and does a credible woman's voice as well. Narrators can make or break an audiobook experience for me and this guy really makes it.

Historia
Featuring a foreword by Michael Connelly, this relentlessly suspenseful thriller from the New York Times bestselling and Edgar award-winning author of the Inspector Banks novels marks the first time that Peter Robinson has set a novel in America. Sarah Broughton has come a long way. She's the star of a hit cop show on TV. She lives in a beautiful California beach house. And–most importantly–she's put her dark past behind her… as well as her old name, Sally Bolton. No need for anyone to know about that.

A little disappointing
Revisado: 02-25-16
As a Peter Robinson fan, I was excited about this new stand-alone novel based in the States, but I found myself disappointed. The story was ok, the characters were likable and interesting enough for the most part, but some of the dialogue seemed hackneyed and I was not fond of the narrator (which is the main reason for this review.) His voice is nice but he has this way of drawing out certain words that almost sounds like a masculine version of "Val Speak." I know the story is based in LA but still, I found the uptick at the end of every third or fourth sentence annoying -- especially when I heard myself do it once or twice.

And as her adoptive mother loses her memory to dementia, the time to find the answers is running out.

It's the DSM Five not DSM-V
Revisado: 02-22-15
The book was fine....entertaining enough and with good narration...but every time the narrator read the title of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual Five (the Roman numeral is spelled out when referring to the title in speech) as the DSM Vee It made me crazy. Where were the editors or fact-checkers? Argh!
