Historia
Texas, 1921. A time of abundance. The Great War is over, the bounty of the land is plentiful, and America is on the brink of a new and optimistic era. But for Elsa Wolcott, deemed too old to marry in a time when marriage is a woman’s only option, the future seems bleak. Until the night she meets Rafe Martinelli. By 1934, the world has changed; millions are out of work and drought has devastated the Great Plains. Elsa must make an agonizing choice: fight for the land she loves or leave it behind and go west, to California, in search of a better life for her family.

Heartbreaking and thought provoking
Revisado: 04-07-25
I did not expect the outcome of this book. I also did not expect the fierce amount of pride this book instilled in me. It’s a heart wrenching story of love, devotion and hardship plaguing a mother who only wants the best for her children. Strength and love are the core of the story. It’s a must read! Don’t forget the tissue when you do.

Historia
Sam Carlson is a projectionist in small-town Minnesota, where fantasies unspool in glorious black and white—for him and for his sweetheart, college-bound math whiz Sarah Haber. When the Japanese bomb Pearl Harbor, Sam is sent to the Philippines and captured as a POW. Brutalized but unbroken by the Bataan Death March and POW camps, Sam is one of eighteen hundred starved and weakened prisoners herded into the cargo hold of a barbaric hell ship called the Arisan Maru, his survival doubtful.

Wonderfully written characters that make you feel every emotion possible.
Revisado: 02-07-25
This is probably one of the best books from Robert Dugoni. The historical accuracy, heartbreaking truths and hope all wrapped up in one. It’s eye opening to find that the book was based on actual events throughout our dark history, but the author gave the characters grace and the well deserved dignity. I wept for the characters and cheered along side the story. Absolutely brilliant!

Historia
Investigative journalist Laura Chambers is back in her tiny hometown of Hillsborough, North Carolina, the one place she swore never to return. Fired from The Boston Globe, her career in shambles, she reluctantly takes a job with the local paper. The work is simple, unimportant, and worst of all, boring - at least until a missing girl turns up dead, the body impeccably clean, dressed to be the picture of innocence. Years earlier, 10-year-old Patty Finch left home and never made it back. But for the people of Hillsborough, Patty was just the beginning.

Great plot twist
Revisado: 02-23-24
The story was pretty good, just drawn out. But the narration was bland and lacked any real emotion. Made the story boring when it shouldn’t have been.

At first, Jude and her partner, Detective Uriah Ashby, can see no pattern to the seemingly random methods, the crime scenes, or the victims - until they’re approached by a brilliantly compulsive math professor.

I love this series already, but that last cliffhanger...WOW! The story is evolving into a fantastic tragedy that makes me want to know more and more about every single character.
