Historia
It was supposed to be a simple case: a young man arrested for armed assault. But it was just the beginning. As Rodney Middleton awaits trial, Detective Jack Warr is warned by his mentor DCI Ridley that they have only scratched the surface of the man's crimes. Then DCI Ridley is suddenly removed from his post. No one is to contact him - and no one will say why.

Not up to standards
Revisado: 06-17-23
I don't understand where La Plante was trying to go with this book and I found it unbelievable. The villain held an underage girl captive in his apartment and the police claimed they had no evidence to keep him in custody. Really?? (This happens fairly early in the book, so this isn't a spoiler.) Also, the subplot with Riddly is stupid. Listen to it if you want to keep up with the series, but you can probably get by with a couple of chapters at the beginning and end. I'm planning to return it.

Doug Stanhope is one of the most critically acclaimed and stridently unrepentant comedians of his generation. What will surprise some is that he owes so much of his dark and sometimes uncomfortably honest sense of humor to his mother, Bonnie.

Snapshot of bygone era

I agree with every rave review of the narration and format.
One thing that really impressed me, though, is how he captured the final generation of kids who weren't medicated for being mischievous (miscreants might be more accurate) and trying to scam an adult into buying a six pack for you and your friends wasn't a capital offense. Really great work.

Leaves you hanging

You don't need to read the Grisha trilogy to understand this book. The narration is a bit annoying, especially Kaz. My biggest problem is that after 15+ hours of listening, it ends with a cliffhanger. I got this book on sale. There's no way I'll pay full price for the sequel. The characters can rot.
