Historia
Paragons of the Stormcast Eternals, the Hammers of Sigmar take stern pride in their motto: first to be forged, never to fail. But when rumours reach Hammerhal of an old foe rising in the wastelands of the Great Parch, three of these warriors will be tested to their limits – and grapple with their roles as members of this warrior elite. Ferant Tidebreaker, a recently forged Liberator, struggles with his sense of unworthiness as he is assigned to the Hammerhands.

Lots of opportunity, very little pay off.
Revisado: 01-21-23
The first third or so of the book is great with lots of interesting threads, characters, and places where the store "could" go. There is an air of mystery and intrigue, internal turmoil and foreshadowed character flaws. Then the story does almost nothing with them, and it all just sort of ends in the typical stormcast fight fight fight scenario. It's not terrible if that is what you wanted, it's just that the first third makes it feel like there was so much more the novel could have done.

Historia
For Thelana Evenfall, Lumineth loreseeker and tutor at the Lyceum Fundamental in the city of Settler's Gain, the weapon is a footnote—the shadow of a rumour buried under mountains of long-forgotten lore. But when whispers of its whereabouts resurface, the vying factions within Hysh emerge to claim its power. From trusted allies to insidious cults, Thelana must navigate a treacherous landscape of clashing armies, political machinations and betrayals within betrayals, all in a desperate effort to defend the powerless from the all-powerful and to ask the unanswerable question:

The story is sub par. The performance, over the top. The characters, wholly uninteresting.

Historia
Long have the Lumineth Realm-lords held themselves aloof from the troubles of the Mortal Realms. But now, as Nagash asserts his dominion over the living and the dead, the Lumineth must strike back. For Carreth Y’gethin, a legendary warrior and powerful Stonemage, the war against Nagash is merely a distraction from the Lumineth’s true purpose - to hone their spiritual equilibrium and prevent their realm falling back into the madness that once plagued it. But when Carreth’s sister is horrifically killed fighting the undead, he finds himself inexorably drawn back into the struggle.

A good look at the armies, but light on the story
Revisado: 04-15-21
With so much happening in the Broken Realms narrative arc across Age of Sigmar at the time the book came out, it is a bit of a shame that this story focused on such a small section of that narrative. I get that they are trying to humanize (elfenize?) the overarching struggle, but it still falls short for me in the story area. Characters, and plot are just okay.
That said, it is a fun look at the different units within the armies if you are big into the tabletop game, (which if you are ready a review of an Age of Sigmar book, you probably are). I'd even say it is a better look at the dynamics of the Bonereapers than it is of the Lumineth. Both armies get nearly equal time to shine, and different units are described along with their interactions with different parts of the army. Interesting stuff.
TLDR: Plot and characters are a meh, but fun if you want to read about your miniature units

Feels like realmgate wars, a good thing
Revisado: 03-17-21
A solid entry if you love listening to the myriad descriptions of the different factions and armies. Reads like the realmgate wars books but with more factions coming to bare. No overarching plot for AoS, but that's not a deal breaker.

Historia
It is said that all who live belong ultimately to the Undying King. In the shadowy lands of Shyish, Nagash, God of Death, calls forth his soulless legions to reassert his dominion. His dread advance begins with the free city of Glymmsforge, bastion of Azyr in the Realm of Death. Standing between Nagash and his prize are the brooding Anvils of the Heldenhammer, an ancient host of Stormcast Eternals, and Lord-Castellant Pharus Thaum, guardian of the Ten Thousand Tombs. As battles between the living and the dead rage throughout the Mortal Realms, the War of Heaven and Death begins anew.

Good Story, Great Characters
Revisado: 02-27-19
Yeah, Nagash is a bit of a bore, but that's the only minor criticism that I could throw at the book. I do think that is a bit on purpose though, as he is meant to be a foil to Sigmar.
I am continually impressed at the caliber of writing within the Age of Sigmar, Black Library. If you are interested in how the story is progressing, and (if like me) you are interested in seeing what Stormcasts are like as people (not quite humans), then this is a definite read.
The main story arc is entertaining and has its twists and turns and surprisingly good character development. What is even more interesting is that even the minor characters have well written and portrayed threads throughout the novel.
Good read, great characters. Highly recommend.
