Still Amazing After All These Years
Revisado: 12-08-21
I had forgotten about the magic that Mr King can create. Revisiting this amazing story (in 4 parts) was a very enjoyable trip down memory lane. This gets "A's" for everything...Frank Muller will live forever in these books.

Historia
The true story of what took place in Donald Trump’s White House during a disastrous 2020 has never before been told in full. What was really going on around the president, as the government failed to contain the coronavirus and over half a million Americans perished? Who was influencing Trump after he refused to concede an election he had clearly lost and spread lies about election fraud? To answer these questions, Phil Rucker and Carol Leonnig reveal a dysfunctional and bumbling presidency’s inner workings in unprecedented, stunning detail.

Great Listen
Revisado: 09-23-21
Another insight into the madness of King Don. This, among several other books about the Trump WhiteHouse definitely is a keeper. The mini-stories about the narcissistic sociopath that is our former president are scary and sometimes terrifying. So glad that he's gone and I enjoyed this book immensely.

Historia
At a maritime auction in Barcelona, Merchant Marine Officer Manuel Coy sees an intense bidding war erupt over a seemingly innocuous 18th-century atlas. The auction winner is the beautiful Tanger Soto, who is obsessed with a Jesuit ship sunk by pirates in the 17th century. Joining forces, Tanger and Manuel hit the seas in search of Dei Gloria and its precious, yet unidentified, cargo. Their quest sends them not only into dangerous waters, but also into the perilous recesses of the human heart.

Wonderful Lister
Revisado: 03-30-21
In the beginning of this book I was confused about who was who....but, as it sorted itself out, I fell in love with the story and the beautiful writing. George Guidall made me stop from time time to admire the excellence of his work. He is without peer. I grieved at the end of this story...I wished for a different ending, but that's how it goes. Highly recommended.

Just Perfect!
Revisado: 05-26-20
I confess I have never met an Elmore Leonard book that I didn't love. This one has risen to the top of my list. It is the perfect marriage of Frank and Elmore...born to make this story come to life in only the way that they can. If I were trying to get some unaware soul to listen to a book that could change their approach the way that they inhale literature, this would be the book. How I miss them both and wish that they were still with us to give us more of these great gifts. Frank Muller just has this amazing ability to capture you and lose yourself in the story, recognizing each and every character, as he reads. I loved this one!

Historia
When a daring, high-tech CIA operation goes wrong and is disavowed, Michael Dunne sets out for revenge. CIA operations officer Michael Dunne is tasked with infiltrating an Italian news organization that smells like a front for an enemy intelligence service. Headed by an American journalist, the self-styled bandits run a cyber operation unlike anything the CIA has seen before. Fast, slick, and indiscriminate, the group steals secrets from everywhere and anyone, and exploits them in ways the CIA can neither understand nor stop.

Another George Save
Revisado: 05-25-20
I've read most of David Ignatius's books and have enjoyed all of them. This latest was a bit confusing on first listen, so I may go back to it in the future. The section that deals with the loss of the child completely clobbered me; I cried and I don't do that very ofter (Beach Music Comes to mind). I felt that George saved this book, as I realized once again that D.I. is not Vince Flynn.

Historia
Washington Post national investigative reporter Carol Leonnig and White House bureau chief Philip Rucker, both Pulitzer Prize winners, provide the definitive insider narrative of Donald Trump's unique presidency with shocking new reporting and insight into its implications. Here, for the first time, certain officials who felt honor-bound not to divulge what they witnessed in positions of trust tell the truth for the benefit of history.

Trump Exposed Again!
Revisado: 03-05-20
I got totally involved in this marvelous documentation of the dis-function(s) in the White House. As a long time Washington dweller( 46 years) I never experienced the amazing conglomeration of lies and deceit that seeps out of the sociopath in the White House, that this book completely exposes . It is an amazing read, if a bit difficult because it is a third person read and that does not work as well in this medium.

Almost as good as Daddy
Revisado: 11-12-19
I wanted this to be great. I think I have listened to all of the Elmore Leonard books and short stories and I have loved them. Raylan, who came to life on in the "Justified" TV series , which was really great, has now become an ongoing hero as envisioned by young Peter. I hope there are more stories and especially I hope that Peter can get George Guidall to read the forthcoming Raylan stories. Keep 'em coming.

Historia
A toxic presidential election is underway in an America already badly weakened by internal divisions. While politicians focus entirely on maintaining their own power, ISIS kidnaps a brilliant French microbiologist and forces him to begin manufacturing anthrax. Slickly produced videos chronicling his progress and threatening an imminent attack are posted to the internet, intensifying the hysteria gripping the United States.

Kyle Comes Close
Revisado: 10-29-19
I liked it, don't get me wrong. I've listened to every Vince Flynn novel and mourned his (and Elmore Leonard's) death. I'm finding myself going back into my library and in some cases, having a better experience the second time around, even though I know what's going to happen. The characters came alive for me in this book and I think that Kyle Mills (and I am certain George Guidall, the Pavarotti of Narrators) have brought them back once again. The devil is in the details, as they say and that is where this story gets a bit hard to swallow. The Mexican thing and all was a bit hard to take So, that said, I thoroughly enjoyed this story and the scary realization that shit like this could happen here.

Historia
As a Japanese-American fisherman stands trial for murder on an island in Puget Sound, snow blankets the countryside. The whiteness covers the courthouse, but it cannot conceal the memories at work inside: the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II, an unrequited love, and the ghosts of racism that still haunt the islanders. First novels rarely attract as much attention as Snow Falling on Cedars. Remaining on best seller lists for months, it has cast a spell on listeners across the country.

A Trip Into The Past
Revisado: 10-14-19
I loved this book when I first read it. And then I saw the movie, which was much less satisfying and harder to relate to, I think, because it just passed so fast. No time to enjoy the beautiful writing/dialogue and thoughts of the subjects. So, for me, listening to the brilliant George Guidall read this book, was a revelation. It came to life with his voice and complete understanding of the characters. It was so close to my own personal experiences as a teenager in love with the rabbi's daughter; the same rabbi who "converted" my mother and me and my sister to the Jewish faith a decade before. So, it was a trip back to the first kiss, the first genuine feeling of innocent love in all its glory. The sacredness of the secret love that is still alive 65 years later.
The trial, etc. was so believable and finally the end with exoneration was fulfilling, but the curse of unrequited love will haunt until this day for Ismael and me
Don't miss this reading.

Historia
With Fire and Fury, Michael Wolff defined the first phase of the Trump administration; now, in Siege, he has written an equally essential and explosive book about a presidency that is under fire from almost every side. A stunningly fresh narrative that begins just as Trump’s second year as president is getting underway and ends with the delivery of the Mueller Report, Siege reveals an administration that is perpetually beleaguered by investigations and a president who is increasingly volatile, erratic, and exposed.

DUMP TRUMP: Make America Great Again
Revisado: 07-23-19
What can I say? This was a love hate read. When I finished the first Wolfe book, I was hoping for a follow up and here it is! I really enjoyed the mix of humor (!) and terror that Wolfe so exquisitely illustrated in this book. My gut feeling that I came away with was: Send this book to every Trump lover and force them to listen to it...or read it (god forbid). Unlike the Mueller Report, which I downloaded and tried (I really tried) to listen to it...impossible...the redactions alone would make another report. So...get this book! NOW!
