Historia
Nothing is more inspiring than a big vision that becomes a triumphant, new reality. Think of how the Empire State Building went from a sketch to the jewel of New York's skyline in twenty-one months, or how Apple’s iPod went from a project with a single employee to a product launch in eleven months.

Excellent Guidance, Ignore the Politics
Revisado: 05-22-23
The authors’ extensive research and use of examples yield compelling guidance on the critical nature of thorough planning that involves inquiry into how similar projects fared elsewhere—the routinely overlooked step. The authors’ status as planning experts is undeniable. Their attempt at the book’s end to pass themselves off as climate change experts is patronizing. Narration throughout is excellent.

Historia
On August 27, 2010, three CIA officers ask for a private meeting with CIA Director Leon Panetta. During that secret session, they tell Panetta that agents have tracked a courier with deep Al Qaeda ties to a three-story house at the end of a dead-end street in Abbottabad, Pakistan. But they say it’s more than a house—it’s a heavily protected fortress. No one in the meeting says the name bin Laden. They don’t have to. Everyone understands that finally, after nearly a decade, maybe, just maybe, they’ve found the world’s most wanted man.

Engrossing History
Revisado: 10-04-21
Chris Wallace's book is a generally well written and well researched account of the location and termination of Osama bin Laden. However, the author's political bias taints the book somewhat. For example, he lavishes praise upon members of one political party and criticizes members of the other. For those interested in military history, the book is well worth the read.

Historia
In November 1942, as a part of Operation Torch, 33,000 American soldiers sailed undetected across the Atlantic and stormed the beaches of French Morocco. Seventy-four hours later, the Americans controlled the country and one of the most valuable wartime ports: Casablanca. In the years preceding, Casablanca had evolved from an exotic travel destination to a key military target after France's surrender to Germany. Jewish refugees from Europe poured in, hoping to obtain visas and passage to the United States and beyond.

Well Researched History Well Narrated

Excellent read and useful contribution to the history of politics and operations during WWII in North Africa. As a former defense attaché in Rabat, I found it fascinating.

Historia
In the 1950s, America enjoyed massive growth and affluence, and no companies contributed more to its success than automakers. They were the biggest and best businesses in the world, their leadership revered, their methods imitated, and their brands synonymous with the nation's aspirations. But by the end of the 1960s, Detroit's profits had evaporated and its famed executives had become symbols of greed, arrogance, and incompetence.

Clear Summary of Nihilist Damage to Industry
Revisado: 07-01-21
Kenneth Whyte has done an impressive job thoroughly researching and clearly articulating the damage done by Ralph Nader not only to General Motors but also to American automobile manufacturing, in general. Particularly compelling is his epilogue in which he posits that a country that demonizes those who produce is bound to fail. The narration by Charles Constant is crisp. Thank you both!

Excellent Rags-to-Riches with Some Flaws
Revisado: 06-15-21
Michael J. Dowling’s book is an inspiring rags-to-riches story. His honest inclusion of details not flattering, such as his first encounter with a teabag in America (he tore it opened and dumped the tea leaves into the cup of hot water) and his entrance onto the college campus looking for a building with a sign reading, “College” (a kind nun directed him to the registrar). Yet, the latter part of the book grows tedious with his detailed description of public health policy, hero worship of Mario Cuomo, and bluster about anti-immigrant sentiment that seems exaggerated.

Historia
Soon after he opened his vineyard for business many years ago, the Wealthy Gardener noticed a puzzling fact. Everyone wanted money, but only a few people managed to accumulate it. The reason, he realized, is that most people focus on short-term gains instead of achieving lasting wealth. As he grew old and aware of his dwindling time on this Earth, the Wealthy Gardener began to share his hard-earned wisdom with the financially troubled in his community, patiently mentoring those who asked for his practical advice on the ways of prosperity.

Refreshing Reminder of Timeless Truths
Revisado: 07-14-20
An engaging, refreshing reminder of timeless truths that govern not only the amassing of wealth but also the living of a good life--it contrasts sharply with our sloppy age of profane nihilism. Brilliant work, John Soforic!

Redemption
Revisado: 03-08-20
This is the story of a character-lacking, self-centered junkie who somehow found the courage and strength to pull herself out of the cesspool of drugs into which she had so eagerly jumped years previously. in the process, she regained her character. Turning points were three. The first two concerned physically throttling two fellow inmates who had targeted her. In a society that prizes impotence, she fittingly adopted short-term rage that proved to be effective. The third involved defying the junkie clandestinely shooting up in the rehab center and turning her in, as opposed to sliding back into the alluring cesspool with her.. One wonders if she ever tried to make amends with the former boyfriend and his family who treated her so well while she was treating them so poorly. One hopes so. Good read.
