Historia
As the child of a Hooters waitress and an ex-pro wrestler, Margo Millet's always known she’d have to make it on her own. So she enrolls at her local junior college, even though she can’t imagine how she’ll ever make a living. She’s still figuring things out and never planned to have an affair with her English professor—and while the affair is brief, it isn’t brief enough to keep her from getting pregnant. Despite everyone’s advice, she decides to keep the baby, mostly out of naiveté and a yearning for something bigger.

Great story and performance
Revisado: 09-01-24
A fresh story, well executed. The characters are believable and the story keeps the listener interested. This book made my 6 1/2 hour drive feel easy.

Historia
The new novel - a book that sold more than a million copies the first week it went on sale in Japan - from the internationally acclaimed author, his first since IQ84. Here he gives us the remarkable story of Tsukuru Tazaki, a young man haunted by a great loss; of dreams and nightmares that have unintended consequences for the world around us; and of a journey into the past that is necessary to mend the present. It is a story of love, friendship, and heartbreak for the ages.

Beautiful Story. Odd dialogue narration
Revisado: 12-02-15
It Is hard for me to believe that Murakami is not aware of the odd dialogue in Bruce Locke's performance. I have listen to nearly 300 books and most of Murukami's material. The use of the Japanese accent is inconsistent with all of his other books. Why do it here? The depth and tone of the story could have been extraordinary if the dialogue had been performed normally. The book is definitely worth a listen. But really should be redone with the accented English removed. When Locke simply narrates the story the results are dark and moving.

Historia
Based on his widely read columns for The New Yorker, Ian Frazier’s uproarious first novel, The Cursing Mommy’s Book of Days, centers on a profoundly memorable character, sprung from an impressively fertile imagination. Structured as a daybook of sorts, with the Cursing Mommy - beleaguered wife of Larry and mother of two boys, twelve and nine - trying (more or less) valiantly to offer tips on how to do various tasks around the home, only to end up on the ground, cursing, surrounded by broken glass.

Very Funny, got me cursing!
Revisado: 11-29-12
What did you like best about The Cursing Mommy's Book of Days? What did you like least?
Cynthia Nixon's performance is terrific. She is very funny. CM gets herself into a lot of ridiculous situations with packing tape, wire hangers, etc., and oddly, it is easy to relate.I also liked all of the references to the Bush administration, global warming, school privatization and health insurance. Just out there enough to be funny. It did take me a little while to get into the book, though. I didn't get it at first. Once I figured out the point of view, I kept going.
Would you recommend The Cursing Mommy's Book of Days to your friends? Why or why not?
I would definitely recommend Cursing Mommy, because it is funny!
Which character – as performed by Cynthia Nixon – was your favorite?
Mommy herself. Cynthia Nixon gives her just the right edge.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Yes, but I think it would be tough to translate to the screen, as so much of it is interior monologue.
Any additional comments?
I found myself quoting lines from the book throughout the day. Like, when I was on hold with the @#$% health insurance company. Oh, and maybe this is self evident, but if you are offended by cursing, you won't like this book.
