A slow burn to a payload of TnT

The performance of the narrator is top tier. The life and humor and sorrow in the characters oozes out of her words.
The story itself was hard to get into, taking me two tries to get past chapter 2. But once the story starts to open up, things get better. And they only keep getting better until the final beautiful ending. If you can push through a bit of a dry beginning this book is a great story with loads of lovable characters unfortunately buried in a heap of more bland ones who only show their uniqueness and potential towards the end of the story’s run.

Fantastic in every way

This is a much grittier collection from Nix, and it’s amazingly well done. It feels a bit too much like an episodic series of Saturday morning cartoons where the characters will always save the day, but watching the chaos and destruction that falls around them never gets old.
This narrator has an absolutely stunning vocal range. His Sir H and Mr F come to life perfectly in every line.

Astounding in its character depth. Mostly.

Overall the themes explored feel a bit over explained and easy to see coming, but the characters and their depth and interactions are amazing. It serves as a great timepiece for that early social media Tumblr culture.
And the performance. God is it amazing! So well narrated, especially when voicing conversations between Aled and Francis. Beautifully done

A new amazing fantasy that reads as realism from Garth Nix
I was a massive fan of the Old Kingdom series, and was a little let down with Goldenhand. Seeing Nix come into this new setting wish such a great piece with lovable characters really did a lot to revive my love for fantasy.
