Historia
Roland Deschain and his ka-tet are bearing southeast through the forests of Mid-World, the almost timeless landscape that seems to stretch from the wreckage of civility that defined Roland's youth to the crimson chaos that seems the future's only promise. Followers of Stephen King's epic series know Roland well, or as well as this enigmatic hero can be known. They also know the companions who have been drawn to his quest for the Dark Tower: Eddie Dean and his wife, Susannah; Jake Chambers; and Oy.

Another Side Quest
Revisado: 07-27-24
I will start off by saying I enjoyed this adventure. However after the last book was mostly one long flashback this novel seems like a side quest. The ka-tet finds a town that is on the brink of an attack from the Wolves. They attack every twenty years or so and take half the children. The townsfolk have learned fighting is meaningless, but once they find a group of gunslingers the option to fight becomes reality. While there is still larger world building at play here including a reintroduction to a character from another King novel the events seem to be a more episodic adventure. I enjoyed that story, but the buildup to that fight with the Wolves seemed a bit long compared to the confrontation itself. I am excited to hear the next novel though as some of King's choices near the end of this book piqued my interest for the next installment.

A worthy Dax Story
Revisado: 04-20-23
This book is set within the series of DS9. Dax goes on a mission to save a friend she had lost touch with who was in trouble. This story leads to revelations about herself including insight into a previous host that I found very interesting. I don't know how this book jives with The Lives of Dax novel released years ago, but it was a thrilling part of the narrative in this one. Overall I recommend it for fans of DS9 and Dax in particular.

My favorite King so far
Revisado: 01-19-23
I have listened to some of Kings popular works, and enjoyed them. Books like The Stand, It, The Shining, Carrie, and Doctor Sleep. I decided to go into the Dark Tower series and recently listened to The Gunslinger. I was bored, confused, and downright disappointed. I watched a video on YouTube that recommended if you didn't enjoy the first book to at least go through the second before giving up on the series. Well I am glad I did. The Drawing of the Three is simply incredible. The Gunslinger as a character was bland in the opening novel so in this installment he is given very interesting side characters to interact with that actually make him a tolerable protagonist. These new characters breathe life into the story and I can't wait to listen to the third book. The performance by Frank Muller is as good as it was in the first and I hope he continues to narrate the rest of the series. Overall I was blown away by this novel and I am so glad I stuck with the series.

Great listen! Better than the film.
Revisado: 12-31-22
For years my father wanted me to read the Jack Ryan series. Knowing their lengths I never felt the motivation to begin. Then Audible steps in and I can finally experience the novels on the go. The film was never a favorite of mine. It was a bit too bland for me, even though I loved the follow-up Clear and Present Danger. The novel though is actually great. I enjoyed the revenge aspect and all the details around all the characters. At times it was hard for me to keep all the characters in my mind as a few are similar with the help of Scott Brick's narration I was able to follow along. For someone who is thinking about getting into this series I recommend Patriot Games as it is actually the second novel, but you can jump in without missing a beat.

Rosamund Pike is Incredible
Revisado: 07-03-22
The Spy who Loved me is a book written in the perspective of a woman in trouble. Bond happens to pass by and the adventure kicks off. Now that doesn't happen until nearly the last third of the book. The rest is her story leading up to her encounter with James Bond. Rosamund Pike is not only gifted on screen she is gifted reading novels as well. I have not heard a better performance. Overall it's a decent little tale that I might have enjoyed more had Bond not even entered the picture. I was enjoying this woman's story as it was. The added adventure and drama wasn't even that necessary.

Jack Torrance's new job at the Overlook Hotel is the perfect chance for a fresh start. As the off-season caretaker at the atmospheric old hotel, he'll have plenty of time to spend reconnecting with his family and working on his writing. But as the harsh winter weather sets in, the idyllic location feels ever more remote...and more sinister. And the only one to notice the strange and terrible forces gathering around the Overlook is Danny Torrance, a uniquely gifted five-year-old.

Makes the Movie Even Better
Revisado: 03-24-22
I adore the film and now listening to the audio book I feel like I was treated to an extended version of the film. I loved the extra depth given to the characters and the history of the Overlook itself. I also rather enjoyed the narrator and think he did a great job at giving each character a vocal variation that made it easy to differentiate. I highly recommend this audiobook for fans of the film or of Stephen King in general.

The Moonraker project has a millionaire backer, the war hero Sir Hugo Drax - a man who, it seems, cheats at cards. With a ballistic rocket at stake, Sir Hugo's exposure could threaten Britain's latest defense system, so James Bond is asked to investigate. Moving from London's most exclusive gambling club to a missile silo on the Channel coast, 007 and his Special Branch assistant, Gala Brand, discover there's more to Drax than meets the eye.

An Excellent Espionage Thriller
Revisado: 02-02-22
Moonraker follows Bond as he investigates a war hero named Hugo Drax. This entry shows a stronger sleuth side to Bond than the previous novels. He has to lurk around and do Intel and I absolutely loved it. The love interest Gala Brand is also not your typical Bond girl even right to the very end she is different, I loved her character, and her story with Bond. This third entry is my favorite novel so far and a pleasant surprise based on the film that shares it's namesake being below average.

Diamonds are being smuggled on a formidable scale from Africa to America via Britain. 007's assignment is to break the smuggling ring. It's a dangerous mission that takes him to the racecourse and mud-baths of Saratoga Springs, the gaming tables of Las Vegas, the ghost town of Spectreville, and beyond. The Spangled Mob threatens to be too much even for Bond, but help is at hand in the shape of co-conspirator Tiffany Case.

James Bond vs. The Mob
Revisado: 02-02-22
One of the weakest films in the franchise is also the weakest book so far. I enjoyed the first three novels, but this entry is weak. The performance by Damian Lewis is solid. I can't fault him for the content. Bond goes to America to trail a diamond smuggling ring. Felix Lighter returns and they have many a boring meal together and eventually Bond goes to Vegas. His lady this time is Tiffany Case. She has a traumatic past but other than that she doesn't lend much to the story. The mob are boring stereotypical characters and have no intrigue. Overall this book was a disappointment after the excellent Moonraker. I hope his next adventure is more memorable.

Not the True 50th Anniversary Celebration
Revisado: 01-15-22
I went into this series very excited. The reviews were good and the idea of a trilogy celebrating Star Trek felt like and adventure I had to be on. The opening draws you into the mystery and there was a lot of promise for what would unfold. Unfortunately though once the story enters the flashback it grinds to a halt. After a few hard to listen through hours it flashes forward again and the story seems to take off again. The flashback is simply just so long, filled with uninteresting characters, and the story is so predictable you are just waiting for the book to get to it's inevitable point. Una or Number One and her Enterprise crew is just so dull. I was interested in a novel about her but she is horribly written here. Once the story goes back to the present with Kirk and Spock my interest peaked again and I wanted to know what was past this cliffhanger. The performance is fine. The female characters still give this actor trouble. His higher pitched take of every female character is grating as it was with the previous novel I heard from him. Overall I can't really recommend this novel even though now I am committed to the trilogy so I will carry on. I can only hope the quality raises with David Mack writing the second book.

Followup to Corbomite Manuever
Revisado: 01-04-22
Watching the Corbomite Manuever with my dad is one of my earliest memories. Getting this novel followup was a nice surprise. The puppet that Balok uses in the episode turns out to be a real alien and they are attacking outposts. The Enterprise is sent to figure out who they are and that leads them to catching up with Lieutenant Bailey and Balok. The book is decent but you can see where the plot is going to end up a few hours in and it overstays it's welcome as a result. The reader is fine, but his speaking slightly feminine for all the female characters confused me at which alien was who after a while. I kind of wish he would have not tried the voice in the end and done it more straight. Overall it's not a bad book and I recommend it if you love the episode and have an Audible credit burning a hole in your pocket. I would give it 3.5 if I could give it half stars.
