Rita Mae Get Your Catholic Theology Right

This one is convoluted and rather grim for a story set at Christmas. arm's rants about taxes and government are typically tiring. (I noticed that she thinks her country employee friend, Coop, should get a raise.
My main gripe though is her faulty description of the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception which she confuses with the Virgin Birth. they are not the same. The Immaculate Conception refers to the Catholic doctrine which says Mary was Conceived without original sin and hence is "Immaculate." Not to be confused with the Virgin birth of Jesus.
If you're going to use it, RM, get it right.

Narrator Mispronounces Maddow

Pretty in depth biography but would have benefited from an interview with Maddow by the author herself instead of quotes from past interviews.
My biggest complaint is the narrator who mispronounces Maddow (rhymes with shadow) throughout the book and tends to be monotone at times.
Overall not bad if you admire Rachel Maddow. I was amazed at the number of awards and honors she won in college considering what a rabblerouser she was.

Despite other reviews, I decided to take a chance on this book. My mistake. I hadn't read anything by this author before and I found the premise interesting but this 21 hour-long audio book had too much padding.
However, my biggest disappointment was the narrator, Lori Prince, which was a big surprise because I've listened to her narrate a few Radclyffe books and she was good. But for some reason in this book she uses an incredibly annoying whiney little voice in an attempt to make Sutton sound younger and ends up making her sound like a 13 year old. That makes listening to the love scenes annoying and more like kiddie antics than anything between consenting adults. I finally couldn't listen anymore.
Maybe the author's shorter books are better. And I wouldn't write off the narrator entirely but listen to a sample first.

Seventy-Seven Clocks Audiolibro Por Christopher Fowler arte de portada

Highly entertaining and extremely witty.

As with all of Christopher Fowler's Bryant and May "Peculiar Crime Unit" books this is another fun, sarcastic and thoughtful entry. This one has a particularly complex plot line- or lines- so I wouldn't advise it as your first dip into the series. But for those who have come to know and grow fond of the quirky old detectives and their unconventional coworkers, I think you'll find this adventure quite complex and challenging. Once you get drawn into the various worlds of detectives Bryant and May, both present and reminiscences of their beginnings, you'll be hooked.
I eagerly await each new book in the series. I would say that the only drawback to this volume is that there's no appearance by Crippen, the office cat, driving their feckless boss batty. There is a most enjoyable cast of characters and you'll learn more arcane history of London than you ever imagined possible with each new case.
Very highly recommended.

Touching, Informative and Humorous

Although I majored in history and political science in college, I learned a great deal about the inner workings of Congress, and, in particular, how complicated it is to transform a simple, positive concept into law. <bI usually reserve audio books for authors like Garrison Keillor to soothe myself to sleep, but in this instance, I recommend listening to Al Franken read his book in his own unique voice so that you don't miss his inimitable sarcasm, wit and sensitivity as only he can communicate it. While he covers serious topics and is adamant in his dedication to the truthful dissemination of information to the American people, he sprinkles the book with interesting tidbits about his fellow senators and the inanities of our political processes. I highly recommend his book, but particularly in audio format. While he may seem justifiably cynical about our systems of communicating policy information, he is, in the final analysis, touchingly sincere in his belief in the worthiness of our diverse American culture. He leaves you feeling uplifted in spite of what many of us feel as recent setbacks to our system of government. Listen to him, you'll enjoy the experience.
