Historia
Based on seven years of ground-breaking research and hundreds of interviews, I Thought It Was Just Me shines a long-overdue light on an important truth: Our imperfections are what connect us to each other and to our humanity. Our vulnerabilities are not weaknesses; they are powerful reminders to keep our hearts and minds open to the reality that we're all in this together.

resilience.

this is a must read for most people. while not obvious from the title, the book is on shame and it's negative influence on shaping our lives es. it provides insight on how to build resilience against shame to minimize it's effect.

Not my Clan
Revisado: 03-08-15
Typically i reserve a single star for books that I cannot finish, but this one I did finish. This was a book i picked up on an audible sale. The description appealed to me. I was first turned off by the narrator's vocalizations for the young girl. It was a bit grating. While I liked the lead male character and aspects of the lead female were good. Overall the lead female was a bit too meek and naive for my tastes. She spends much of the book being the damsel in distress. The plot lines became weak as the book progressed. One of the major themes got wrapped up in matter of minutes and off scene. I won't be seeking out anymore books in this series or by this author.

And it keeps ticking
Revisado: 02-28-15
I enjoyed the conclusion to the Clockwork trilogy but I felt it was rough to get through in parts. Some of the drama gets a bit tiresome and hurts the fluidity of the book. Overall, the story is good, you see a bit deeper in to the characters. And after one of the main thread-lines from the trilogy is wrapped up, the author does take the time to bring many of the other treads and character outcomes to a natural conclusion. The end will leave you with a sad place in your heart but with hope to expand into it.

Charming
Revisado: 01-21-13
This was a free "gift" from audible over the 2012 holidays. Its a collection of short touching stories that leave you wanting a bit more history of the past. The stories are spoken by those that experienced them and they will leave a mark on your soul.
I would be interested in additional collections of these stories and will be looking into the project. If this had not been a free offering i likely wouldn't have stumbled upon it. In the same vain. While the stories are worth the listen and make a nice hour filler between books, I'm not sure the associated cost (at the time of the review it was just over $9 for members) is appropriate for only an hour.

Good Story; distracting performance
Revisado: 06-26-12
I'm only a 1/4 of the way into the story and have become distracted by the nuances of a different narrator. The voice doesn't match the personna i have in my head for Rachel, she has more of a whiney feeling in this one. Frequently used names (Piscary) and magic terms (ley line being one of them) are pronounced differently from previous recordings . Its frequent enough that a frown comes to my face every time. I think had this been the intitial narrator, I don't think I would have continued the series. I'm glad the orginal narrator is returned to after this blip in the series.

Watch the TV show
Revisado: 03-14-12
Given the preference between the book at the show, watch the show [HBO's True Blood]. . While the show has diverged from the book, the main story line of the murders that show up in the small town of Louisiana holds mostly true. The book is missing some of the characters i had grown to enjoy in the TV show. I think the TV show provides much more depth.
The book taken as a whole isn't a bad one. I found the story enjoyable (even if i knew who did it.) And fascinated by some of the nuances of the world's construct. The book revolves around Sookie and the people she interacts with. She doesn't quite have the spunk that i like to see in my female characters. She can read minds but has always focused on it as a disability rather than a gift... There is some "adult situations" which i will categorize as cheezy trash. Some of the time it will make you go "hmmmm" other times it will make you go "really? you wrote that?"
The performance was good. She reads with a good southern sounding accent. The only voice i cringed at was Sams. The voice was just a bit gruff from the preconceived notion i had of him.
And yes, while i said to watch the show, it might be worth borrowing from the library for something light hearted. I'll probably pick up the next book more out of curiosity then out of a must read.
