Historia
In A History of the Bible, John Barton argues that the Bible is not a prescription to a complete, fixed religious system, but rather a product of a long and intriguing process, which has inspired Judaism and Christianity, but still does not describe the whole of either religion. Barton shows how the Bible is indeed an important source of religious insight for Jews and Christians alike, yet argues that it must be listened to in its historical context - from its beginnings in myth and folklore to its many interpretations throughout the centuries....

Definitely not a light read, but very interesting. There is certainly some bias that is sensed in the telling, but it is a thorough history on a complex and emotionally charged topic

Historia
A significant number of Americans, especially evangelical Christians, believe Earth and humankind were created in their present form sometime in the last 10,000 years or so - the rationale being that this is (presumably) the story told in the book of Genesis. Within that group, any threatening scientific evidence that suggests otherwise is rejected or, when possible, retrofitted into a creationist worldview.

Challenging
Revisado: 04-25-22
The Church of today needs to seriously consider the principles reviewed in this book if it is to stay relevant to a world that is in desperate need of the hope of Jesus Christ. Is our hold on the literal words of Genesis building an insurmountable wall for anyone seeking truth?
Great examination of a vastly misunderstood, but overly argued topic.

It's a radical, provocative idea: We're not entitled to get offended or stay angry. The idea of our own "righteous anger" is a myth. It is the number-one problem in our societies today and, as Dallas Willard says, Christians have not been taught out of it.

this book should be required for anyone struggling with anger, pride, or feelings of worthlessness. I read it once and listened to it once, both times were eye-opening

Historia
When the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941, Cornelia Fort was already in the air. At 22, Fort had escaped Nashville’s debutante scene for a fresh start as a flight instructor in Hawaii. She and her student were in the middle of a lesson when the bombs began to fall, and they barely made it back to ground. Still, when the US Army Air Forces put out a call for women pilots to aid the war effort, Fort was one of the first to respond. She became one of just over 1,100 women from across the nation to make it through the Army’s rigorous selection process and earn her silver wings.

To Remember
Revisado: 05-11-20
I had never before heard of the WASPs until there was a program on TV. I immediately went looking for a book on the subject and this is the first I found.
As " The Greatest Generation" is leaving us in large numbers, it is so important, now more than ever, that their stories get told. I found myself in awe of each woman's story as it was told in "The Women With Silver Wings". these women are heros and their with should never be forgotten. I, as a female medical officer in the US Navy, was inspired.
It is OUR duty to remember!
