Historia
Anna Fox lives alone - a recluse in her New York City home, unable to venture outside. She spends her day drinking wine (maybe too much), watching old movies, recalling happier times...and spying on her neighbors. Then the Russells move into the house across the way: a father, mother, their teenaged son. The perfect family. But when Anna, gazing out her window one night, sees something she shouldn't, her world begins to crumble. And its shocking secrets are laid bare.

Ok story but ...
Revisado: 03-08-18
I have one advice before you start listening to the story, get frustrated and give up. You must listen at 1.25 speed. The narrator has a cadence that sounds normal at 1.25x speed but the extremely slow at 1x speed. This book is slow to develop and the speech pattern of the narrator is straight out of a program for meditation and inducing sleep. You will know what I mean immediately. Save the annoyance and speed it up, you will get thru it.

Historia
A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. A strange collection of very curious photographs. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets 16-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.

Solid "meh.."
Revisado: 12-13-16
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
So far, not really. I was expecting something like Harry Potter, but it's not that interesting or exciting.
Would you be willing to try another book from Ransom Riggs? Why or why not?
It's coming across a little simple like it was intended for very young adults. There seem to be no plot twists, and it's not exactly a nail biter.
What three words best describe Jesse Bernstein’s voice?
He sounds like a fifteen year old boy... It's his complete butchering of the various British accents that is becoming distracting enough that it's making me question why he was ever chosen for this book. He basically talks like how a young teenager or a child would try to emulate a British accent after seeing one episode of some British tv show. He compensates for not being able to mimic the dialects by speaking incredibly slow, as though most characters were afflicted with some form of mental slowness.
Was Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children worth the listening time?
I'm still waiting for something to happen, but not for much longer.
Any additional comments?
Either this book is for children who don't like excitement, or it's really boring. If you're a British national, do not listen to this, try to read the book. Being a middle aged adult, the whole thing is a solid "meh" for me.

I found the journal at work. Well, I don't know if you'd call it work, but that's where I found it. It's the lost journal of Nikola Tesla, one of the greatest inventors and visionaries ever. Before he died in 1943, he kept a notebook filled with spectacular claims and outrageous plans.

Dude, seriously, awesome
Revisado: 11-09-16
Where in the hell is Tesla? Dude, I seriously don't care. This book is so hilariously funny, that the story itself is secondary to the seriously awesome writing and the totally kick-ass performance. I wish I had some talent to write anything more than reviews for books, but I don't. You clearly do, so don't stop. It's one in a hundred books that makes me laugh out loud, and not for being idiotic. So funny, so real in the way it's presented that it doesn't matter that the story is totally bogus, cause I actually wish it were true. The world would be a better place for it.

As the unsuspecting scientists at HAL await the arrival of the oil, they ready their lab for what they know is an important job. They've seen the test results from Leaguer; this find could make history. While the barrel is on its way to Houston, an "infection" breaks out on the far-away rig. And as life aboard the rig descends into chaos, the scientists at HAL make their own discovery - what Leaguer found is indeed historic; it just isn't oil. Instead, they've brought up a dangerous organism that could threaten all life on Earth.

Yet another bad narration
Revisado: 02-19-16
Couldn't finish this book. Narrator (author) rushed thru the book by simply reading it out loud in a monotonous, disinterested, rushed tone of a person trying to get thru something they are required to read but are not interested in. He often had abrupt spaces between two consecutive words as though he had to turn the page and didn't even know what the next word would be until he read it. His female characters were distinguished from the males as they all spoke in that fake, high falsetto voice that male comedians would use to quote something stupid their girlfriend had said. Gorey action scenes were read aloud in the same rushed, bored tone as the descriptions of the day's lunch selection. Whenever a narration sounds worse than I would, in my own head, reading it to myself, I know I should have just bought the book instead. Returning this and getting my credit back. Sorry, author.. please hire someone to narrate your next book.

Ruined by Narrator
Revisado: 01-21-16
This may have been a good story. I wasn't able to find out as I could not get past the first 40 minutes of listening. The narrator makes no attempt at sounding like a professional performer. The biggest weakness in his performance is his casual treatment of words which makes this story sound like it is being told by a teenager, and makes every character, regardless off their background, race or nationality sound like a frat boy. He clips the ending "g" from all verbs and nouns that end in "ing" or "ng". Basically, everyone in the story is talkin' like they're just hangin' around the pool, even the Vikin's (normally referred to as Vikings). This is so consistent that once you realize what he is doin', it becomes as annoyin' as nails on a chalk board. Sir Walter Raleigh talkin' like this? Or a Vikin' killin' his enemies? Not very realistic. Secondly, he also bites off his R's like someone from "New Yawk" (or possibly Boston) and when two characters are havin' a dialogue, you can't tell their voices apart. I read a lot of this author's books, and they were all interesting and exciting. I am returning this and picking up the book instead. This narrator needs to take some speaking classes.

Awful narration
Revisado: 10-06-15
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Another narrator. I actually got the ebook because I was interested in the story but absolutely could not listen to this narrator.
Would you recommend Bone Pit to your friends? Why or why not?
Not the audio book. Not with this narration.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The main female character is narrated in the style of a woman who speaks and thinks every word as though she is shouting "surprise!!!!!" at a birthday party and her voice gets stuck that way. She would have been a great character for a Seinfeld episode.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
The book itself may be good and interesting. I will have to update my review when I finish reading it. The audiobook was a no-go however.

George Wilson, M.D., a radiology resident in Los Angeles, is about to enter a profession on the brink of an enormous paradigm shift, foreshadowing a vastly different role for doctors everywhere. The smartphone is poised to take on a new role in medicine, no longer as a mere medical app but rather as a fully customizable personal physician capable of diagnosing and treating even better than the real thing. It is called iDoc. George's initial collision with this incredible innovation is devastating.

Meh book, frustrating performance
Revisado: 03-28-14
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Pretty much what I expected from Robin Cook last few years. I haven't finished his last five books because they were so predictable and uninteresting. So is this. Unoriginal idea, uninteresting characters, very little to care about. Luckily he reveals the plot less than halfway thru so there is no need to listen further, which is good because the narrator is really awful.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
Nothing. When the plot came to light early on in the book, I was neither surprised nor interested.
What didn’t you like about George Guidall’s performance?
First of all, it was not a performance, it was a high speed read thru. He rushed thru the story so fast I kept losing track. Luckily very little happened. I would love to know where he had to be, because you could tell he was rushing to get thru each chapter. He made no distinction between characters or dramatic vs narrative moments. He delivered every sentence with the same hurried reading style, like when a fifth grader is made to read his paper in front of his classmates and he just wants to get it over with. He made no effort to sound different, change his intonation, tone or pacing to reflect either a different character, or a dramatic moment. Couldn't tell who was talking at any given time, especially when two people were going back and forth, there was no way to know who was saying which line. There is a big difference between a performance and a reading, and any stranger off the street, if handed a random book for the first time, could have read it like this. Not good for an audio book.
Did Cell inspire you to do anything?
Return it for something else. I am unwilling to pay for a book that the performed couldn't be bothered to at least try to perform. I could have just read it onto a tape and listened to it. I expect a little more.

Historia
This historical generational horror/suspense/science fiction audiobook defies genre classification as it has intrigue and terror. It is a Centenary retelling of the Titanic story to destroy all the false legends surrounding Titanic. "From a master of terror and suspense," according to Clive Cussler, author of Raise the Titanic, herein lies a compelling reason that forces Captain Edward J. Smith to scuttle his own ship - RMS Titanic. What dark secret prompts such an action on the part of a veteran, retiring captain on a ship's maiden voyage?

what are they thinking with this performance?
Revisado: 02-07-14
What disappointed you about Titanic 2012?
The narrator is dreadful. He reads the story like a man doing a horrible impression of one of those actors on tv who advertise class action lawsuit services by pretending to be a tough, cut-throat attorney. But that is NOT the worst part. I will not be able to comment fairly on the story itself, because I will not be able to make it past the second 20 minutes. This audiobook has a non-stop, mind-boggling, pointless , shrill instrumental music soundtrack that is so distractingly loud, pointless, with no relationship to the story, that you will want to throw your device out the window. This is by far the worst production I have ever bought. I want my money back so I can just buy the book and read it.
Would you recommend Titanic 2012 to your friends? Why or why not?
NOT the audiobook. Buy the book if the story interests you.
How could the performance have been better?
Different narrator, NO soundtrack of any kind. Ever. Never. Ugh. Headache inducing to the ultimate.
What character would you cut from Titanic 2012?
The director or producer or whoever was the mastermind behind demolishing what might be a good book.
Any additional comments?
I would like a refund of my credit.
