Shocking news reaches them—an old friend has been killed, and a dangerous package he was protecting has gone missing. The gang's search leads them into the antiques business, where the tricks of the trade are as old as the objects themselves. Just keeps getting better.
Revisado: 09-22-23
Impossible as it seems, this newest entry in this series is the best so far. The mystery is well-plotted as usual, but the core characters are more deeply explored this time around. The Elizabeth-Stephen plotline is beautifully nuanced. There are a number of lovely new aiders and abettors that I look forward to seeing in the future. More Garth, please.

Another great entry in the series!

I was a little apprehensive about listening to this one since I am a HUGE fan of Sam Dastor. Two minutes in, I was thoroughly enjoying Cornelius Garrett's rich, plummy narration. As usual, there was no shortage of excellent suspects, so I had no idea who the murderer was until the end. Colbeck and Leeming are a great team. This series keeps getting better.

Nice Coming of Age Story
Revisado: 11-11-18
This is a sweeping story of an English house and it's various inhabitants before and after WWII. The story follows two girls as they grow up and make choices - good and bad - that change their lives. It won't change your life, but it was a great listen on a long car trip. #Family Saga #WWII #Feel Good #Tagsgiving #Sweepstakes

Historia
Late October 1909, and the season of ghouls and things that go bump in the night has descended on the village of Littleton Cotterell. Lady Hardcastle and her trusted lady’s maid, Florence, find themselves hosting a colorful cast of actors whose spooky moving picture, The Witch’s Downfall, is being shown to mark Halloween. But things take a macabre turn when the first night’s screening ends with a mysterious murder, and the second night with another. One by one the actors turn up dead in ways that eerily echo their film.

Love This Series
Revisado: 11-11-18
If you love Fannie Flagg, then you will love this series as well. The series revolves around a small town in Alabama during the Depression with a mystery to unravel in each book. The characters are all people that you would want to have as neighbors - even the obnoxious ones. This latest entry has a more serious mystery than usual, but the author manages to keep it from getting too dark. #Small Town #Depression #Nostalgic #Tagsgiving #Sweepstakes

When the engines finally met, there was a deafening clash and the Brighton Express twisted and buckled, tipping its carriages on to the other line. It was a scene of utter devastation. October 1854. As crowds of passengers rush to make the departure of the London to Brighton Express, a man watches from the shadows nearby, grimly satisfied as the train pulls out of the station. Chaos, fatalities and unbelievable destruction are the scene soon after when the train derails on the last leg of its journey.

Another Wonderful Entry in the Series
Revisado: 04-10-18
I've loved every book in this series so far. The plot was ingenious and combined with Sam Dastor's lovely narration, I listened almost straight through. Just one tiny complaint - please stop allowing Sgt. Leeming to get clunked on the head in every book. It's going to cause permanent damage if you aren't careful. #Train Mystery #Victorian #Suspenseful #Tagsgiving #Sweepstakes

A House for Mr. Biswas, by Nobel and Booker Prize-winning author V. S. Naipaul, is a powerful novel about one man's struggle for identity and belonging. Born into poverty, then trapped in the shackles of charity and gratitude, Mr. Biswas longs for a house he can call his own. He loathes his wife and her wealthy family, upon whom he is dependent. Finding himself a mere accessory on their estate, his constant rebellion is motivated by the one thing that can symbolize his independence.

Thoughtful story, WONDERFULLY narrated
Revisado: 12-11-17
This is a long, funny, sad, sometimes frustrating story about a man who dreams of something better. It's not an easy listen, but well worth the time invested in the end. As always, Sam Dastor brings the story to life with his narration. I could honestly listen to this guy read the phone book. He interprets the author's words beautifully.

Historia
Mrs. Sookie Poole of Point Clear, Alabama, has just married off the last of her daughters and is looking forward to relaxing and perhaps traveling with her husband, Earle. The only thing left to contend with is her mother, the formidable Lenore Simmons Krackenberry. Lenore may be a lot of fun for other people, but is, for the most part, an overbearing presence for her daughter. Then one day, quite by accident, Sookie discovers a secret about her mother's past that knocks her for a loop and suddenly calls into question everything she ever thought she knew about herself, her family, and her future.

Revisado: 07-10-17
This book was so good that I dropped everything to finish listening to it. As usual, Fannie Flagg was spot on with the narration, making all of her characters come to life. The book was funny and entertaining and incredibly sad. I was happy/sad bawling under the covers with my headphones on, trying not to wake my husband by the end. The WASPs were an incredibly heroic group of ladies that you never hear about. After finishing the book I was moved to find out as much as I could about them. #SmallTown #FeelGood #Nostalgic #Tagsgiving #Sweepstakes
