Historia
When an experiment to study quantum uncertainty goes spectacularly wrong, physics student Bill Rustad and his friends find that they have accidentally created an inter-dimensional portal. They connect to Outland - an alternate Earth with identical geology, but where humans never evolved. The group races to establish control of the portal before the government, the military, or evildoers can take it away. Then everything changes when the Yellowstone supervolcano erupts in an explosion large enough to destroy civilization and kill half the planet.

Another great one…
Revisado: 12-04-24
It’s a good story, and well executed. The narrator is, of course, excellent. It’s NOT the Bobiverse, but it’s a compelling plot with enough science and drama to make it worthwhile. My only issue is that one of the main character’s name is “Bill”, and that caused me to keep thinking of that same character in the Bobiverse, especially since I went straight from one of those books to this one. Not a big deal, though.

Historia
On a planet where life is cheap, in a city built on corruption, very few things are considered holy. The Landing Site is one of them. The remains of the century-old habitat pod—which delivered the colonists to the only barely habitable place on the cruel world of Croatoan—has become a monument to the hardscrabble people who somehow survived the unsurvivable. So when blood is shed on that sacred ground, it’s seen as an attack against the entire colony.

Great detective story with solid SciFi
Revisado: 10-12-24
I just started the third book after finishing this one. It seems just as good so far. It's basically a single novel broken into three parts. The series is a compelling, interesting story with a hard-as-nails old time detective set in a futuristic world. I actually think it would make a great TV show or movie. It has it all.
Correia does a fine job world building, and his he builds a compelling character in the grizzled old-school nostalgia-loving homicide detective. The narration is perfect for the character, and I mean perfect. Oliver Wyman has a Nick Offerman vibe with the main character, and that's a good thing. Overall, I'm really enjoying the series, and most likely will try other offerings by Larry Correia.

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Great original story executed flawlessly.
Revisado: 03-18-24
What a ride! It’s one thing coming up with a good plot, it’s another thing entirely delivering that plot with beautifully crafted characters, in a believable world. It was great from start to finish. The last few paragraphs delightfully tied the whole story together. And, of course, Ray Porter’s narration was sublime. Perfection actually.

Great story, classic sci-fi, recommend
Revisado: 09-14-23
“Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.” - Arthur C. Clarke
I don't want to give any spoilers, but suffice it to say this is a classic sci-fi story of a civilization that's not quite aware of its roots. It starts out as a naval story and slowly develops into more and more as the author unrolls the tale for the reader. The story overall is creative and made the book well worth the listen.
The narrator is talented and captures different voices well enough that I was never confused about who was speaking. I've read a half-dozen of Glynn Stewart's books now, and have come to really enjoy his style. This book is no different in that, but it's not like most of his others I've read, it has a slightly different flavor. Because of that, I was impressed with his flexibility.
The book, unlike some I've read recently, is neatly broken up into sensibly-sized and announced chapters, so you always know when the scene changes. The character development is good, but not deep, it's all about the tale and the mission. I enjoyed the story, and would recommend it to any sci-fi fan.

Historia
The long and bloody war with the vampires in the United States has finally ended, thanks to the efforts of the vampire Arbiter and ONSET Commander David White - and a nuclear explosion on American soil. The final battle proves harder to conceal than hoped, however, and a series of high profile incidents end any chance of hiding the supernatural. Suddenly, the world is faced with the fact that it is both more wonderful and more terrible than humanity ever realized.

The Best One Yet
Revisado: 06-02-23
This is a story where a werewolf soldier is among the most normal and mundane characters in the book. The world Stewart slowly constructed in the first 3 volumes really comes to life in the series finale. It's an interesting world with well-developed characters and no shortage of imaginative twists and turns.
I really enjoyed the Onset series, and I expected more of the same when I started this final volume. It wasn't the same, it was head and shoulders above the first 3 books. The books leading up to this finale were all good, I didn't have problems with any of them, it's a great story filled with convincing characters and an imaginative plot. This fourth book, however, knocked it out of the park. The story got even weirder, in all the right ways, and Stewart let his imagination go wild, without overdoing it. And, Ray Porter was just as excellent as he always is, he's one of the world's great narrators. He could make a textbook compelling. Luckily, he had far more than that to work with here.
This appears to be the last book in the series, but if Glynn Stewart wants to write another one, I'll be here for it.

Something called the “Blue Juice" is coming. For all of us. Luckily, me (Chip Collins), Pete, Nikola Tesla, Bobo, and FBI Agent Gina Phillips are here to kick its ass, and send it back to last Tuesday. Maybe. Or maybe we'll fail, and everyone in the multiverse is doomed. (Seriously, you might want to get that underground bunker ready.) Either way, I've got to get home to Julie and find out – woah, I'm not about to tell you that right here in the book description! TMI, dude.

Great series so far
Revisado: 05-14-23
This is the second book in the series and I’m on my way to download the third. This isn’t high brow literature or thought provoking science fiction, although the author has managed to build some very interesting technological concepts, very clever in fact. This book is funny and entertaining and is it’s own thing, and that’s pretty awesome. It never drags, and stays interesting cover to cover. The email-based story telling seems like it would get old, I was apprehensive going from the first book to the second because I thought it might not survive a second roll-out, but it worked perfectly. If you need some stress-free & enjoyable listening, with a side of humor and nerding out, give this series a try.

For generations, everything has been getting faster, better, and cheaper. America made that happen, but now America has lost interest in keeping it going.

Great book, filled with keen analysis. Having this wealth of facts is valuable. I may draw some slightly different conclusions on some issues, but Zeihan’s logic seems accurate in most instances. He’s a first class narrator. Worth the read.

Nancy Kranich (played by Emmy-nominated actress Natasha Lyonne of Russian Doll and Orange Is the New Black) is a night nurse on an orbiting space station. But Nancy hates her job, is sick of space, and longs to find adventure and a safe place to smoke cigarettes that won’t blow everyone up. But when Nancy gets caught up in an outer-space conspiracy involving President Kennedy, former vice-president Richard Nixon, and an intergalactic object that could change the course of history, she gets way more adventure than she bargained for.

Simply the Best Full-Cast Audio Book Ever!
Revisado: 07-09-22
If you like good writing, creative plots, outstanding acting, and superb audio engineering, this is the title for you! I loved everything about Space: 1969. It's clever, funny, and, if you are familiar with the era, warmly nostalgic. The acting is top-notch, Natasha Lyonne, playing the nurse, is just an amazing performance. The Nixon and Kennedy characters are delightfully funny and well-acted. In fact, every character is well fleshed-out and beautifully voiced. The direction and editing is tight as a drum.
What really pulled it all together is the incredible sound engineering, the sound effects, music, stereo separation, and editing are absolutely the best I've ever heard in a full-cast audio production. I've listened to thousands of hours of audiobooks, podcasts, and radio plays, but this one stands head and shoulders above them all. I really hope this writing group and production team put out more stories like this one, I will buy them all. Hats off to Audible Originals for making this outstanding performance available.

Historia
Stephen Fry travels into the most remarkable place we know - our brain. The organ of knowledge and the one we know least about. Over 12 episodes Stephen explores just how much we’ve learned about this mysterious structure in recent years and tries to answer some of the most difficult questions that remain. To do this, we relay the discoveries and stories of neuroscientists, psychologists, anthropologists and even philosophers, to add illumination and perspective as we travel. Each episode will be full of brainy stories: some shocking, some thrilling, some scarcely believable.

The entire series, as are most of Fry’s projects, is wonderfully engaging, well researched, and beautifully narrated. Stephen Fry can make any subject interesting and certainly doesn’t miss the mark with this series. The episodes flew by, leaving me wanting more.
