Historia
Looking at real estate isn’t usually a life-or-death situation, but an apartment open house becomes just that when a failed bank robber bursts in and takes a group of strangers hostage. The captives include a recently retired couple who relentlessly hunt down fixer-uppers to avoid the painful truth that they can’t fix their own marriage. There’s a wealthy bank director who has been too busy to care about anyone else and a young couple who are about to have their first child but can’t seem to agree on anything.

The story and narrator
Revisado: 09-25-24
The twists and turns of the plot are amazing, and the narrator’s ability to change voices for different characters is very entertaining.

Disappointing
Revisado: 12-03-22
I love Christopher Buckley’s books, but this was terrible. Also, Gibson Frazier’s voice and timing made the jokes fall flat. Very disappointing.

Historia
In 1918, after four harrowing years on the Western Front, Tom Sherbourne returns to Australia to take a job as the lighthouse keeper on remote Janus Rock. To this isolated island, where the supply boat comes only four times a year and shore leaves are granted every other year at best, Tom brings a young, bold, and loving wife, Isabel. Three years later, after two miscarriages and one stillbirth, the grieving Isabel is tending the grave of her newly lost infant when she hears a baby’s cries on the wind. A boat has washed up on shore carrying a dead man and a living baby.

Narrator Accent
Revisado: 03-07-18
While I enjoyed the story, I missed a good part of it due to the narrator’s Australian accent that at times was incomprehensible and his whispering at the end of sentences.

Historia
There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

14=Stephen King
Revisado: 02-11-13
Where does 14 rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
14 masterfully takes the commonplace to a new place, imbuing the everyday with history and the supernatural.
What about Ray Porter’s performance did you like?
Ray Porter changed voices, accents, and genders so well that I forgot it was a single reader narrating.
Any additional comments?
I thought I was listening to a Stephen King novel.

Historia
“Are you there, Satan? It’s me, Madison,” declares the whip-tongued 13-year-old narrator of Damned, Chuck Palahniuk’s subversive new work of fiction. The daughter of a narcissistic film star and a billionaire, Madison is abandoned at her Swiss boarding school over Christmas, while her parents are off touting their new projects and adopting more orphans. She dies over the holiday of a marijuana overdose—and the next thing she knows, she’s in Hell.

Once again, Palahniuk invents a new world.
Revisado: 01-14-13
Would you listen to Damned again? Why?
No. I hardly ever listen to books a second time.
What other book might you compare Damned to and why?
Damned is so different that the only comparable book I can think of is Palahniuk's Rant.
What about Tai Sammons’s performance did you like?
She really makes you think she is a thirteen year old girl.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It made me laugh at times and think about what goes on in the real world.
Any additional comments?
Damned has many new twists on the old theme of Hell. You can never tell where Palahniuk is going, as he keeps on surprising you.
