Good sci-fi military
Revisado: 02-13-25
The book was so good continuation of the E-Day story and I enjoyed NSS' writing style and creativity, especially the monsters. I was not happy with the ending though. That could've been less abrupt and would've been way more satisfying if events went differently.

Ripped from the headlines, the explosive Trackers saga is a realistic depiction of what an EMP attack and the aftermath might look like from one of the genre's leading voices, USA Today best-selling author and former Homeland Security disaster mitigation officer Nicholas Sansbury Smith. This box set includes the entire four-book Trackers series with over 30 hours of post-apocalyptic survival fiction and action. This box set includes Trackers, Trackers 2: The Hunted, Trackers 3: The Storm, and Trackers 4: The Damned.

Raven and His Dog Creek Kick Ass
Revisado: 01-21-25
The whole idea is so scary because it could really happen. I didn't like when a main character died in the first book, pissed me off GOT style. But overall, it was some of NSS' better writing. Some of his recurring themes were present like the tough, lovable renegade with the badass, loyal dog and a small group of survivors fighting a bigger force. Even though there weren't aliens or radioactive creatures here, he managed to use mythology as a way to fit in a monstrous figure with a mouth full of teeth, classic NSS. If you enjoyed watching The Walking Dead then you'll like this series. It has similar characters and plot points sans zombies.

Johnnie Rico never really intended to join up—and definitely not the infantry. But now that he’s in the thick of it, trying to get through combat training harder than anything he could have imagined, he knows everyone in his unit is one bad move away from buying the farm in the interstellar war the Terran Federation is waging against the Arachnids. Because everyone in the Mobile Infantry fights. And if the training doesn’t kill you, the Bugs are more than ready to finish the job.

The Godfather of All My Favorite Military Sci-fi
Revisado: 01-02-25
I can't believe it took me so long to get to this book. It was written almost 70 years ago but sounds so familiar, like Nicholas Sansbury Smith's Helldivers or Craig Alanson's Expeditionary Force. Let's not forget all the movies and video games. Heinlein is to Military Sci-fi like Asimov is to standard Sci-fi.

Great Idea, Creative NSS Creatures, B Movie Action
Revisado: 12-12-24
I really liked the story but not the telling of it. What bothered me was the unpolished rough draft feel and the over dramatization of the text. When every piece of dialogue is yelled out as an exclamation, it loses the effect. The characters also needed a lot more development to be a more serious story. This was a cool B Movie series with a lot of potential. It's interesting though to go back and see earlier work from a favorite author and how they've evolved. I started out with Hell Divers so my expectations were high. The sci-fi creativity is great here with a disastrous apocalypse and terrifying creatures. There are many things I like to think of as Nick motifs, like small survivor groups facing daunting odds, grotesque monsters with round mouths full of teeth and small or no eyes, unique scary noises made by the monsters, gene science, tough heroic kids and soldier leadership.

So good, emotional and entrancing.
Revisado: 11-11-24
I'm so grateful for these books, these beautifully woven stories and ever evolving characters. The WI world gets simultaneously bigger and smaller as points of connection between people and events are revealed while we get to see more places. The undead kingdom reminiscent of ancient Egypt was brilliant and I loved all the scenes there. The Empress's war could've been a book all on its own. It was sad, a little difficult to listen as you knew what would happen to these majestic creatures, but also such an admirable show of courage and loyalty. Then we see a parallel to that battle with Pisces and his unexpected trauma. I love that every installment keeps the story moving forward, peeling back layers. It's magical.

Homeward Bound plus Zombies
Revisado: 08-27-24
I love Mark Tufo's zombie series. He does an excellent job of combining goofy humor with terrifying gore. Throw in some mystical woo-woo of both the evil and good varieties, and you've got yourself a great story. I blew through the Riley books in 2 days and loved everything except for the ending of book 4, but that was redeemed in book 5. The talking animals are so much fun and there's a strong parallel of personalities between them and some of the human characters in the main books. I appreciate apocalyptic storylines that have an overall positive vibe without being corny. There's a lot of death, obviously, but it's not hopeless.

So Satisfying
Revisado: 08-22-24
I loved it! Thank you for the action and the results of all their sacrifices. I loved how Gran Jefe had his own big chunk of this book and really stood out as one of the heroes. His skills were really impressive, first as a survivor on the islands and inside the volcano, on the ocean and then battling like a gladiator. I love how Michael's small group had their own adventure that led to significant changes for the future. He was a one-atmed badasss savior. I love X and Miles so much and I'm happy with how everything happened, and how there's room for so many more story branches.

Operating in the ZA, really good
Revisado: 08-18-24
The focus here is on a single operator, and it's from the outbreak's beginning so you could actually read this book first if you're new to the Arisen world. She's in one LWOE situation after another, with constant near death, heart stopping experiences. I love the attention to detail in each scene, transporting you to be right there with her badass self. The action and survival sequences are just thrilling. Her internal struggles play a huge part, and that depth of emotion brings it all together as an outstanding book. Of course R.C. Bray's narration was amazing as always. I love his ability to choose just the right voice to bring the story to life. That bit with Predator in the beginning was a sweet gift. There's definitely a different feel to it than the main novels, less about the zombies and more about the individual, but by the end I was left satisfied and ready to experience the whole series all over again.

Pirateaba is a master weaver of stories. I loved every second of book 12, even the sad parts. This installment mainly takes place in Riverfarm with a lot of Rioka, but you get Wandering Inn updates as well, especially for Numb Tongue and Mersha. I can't wait to dive into the next one.
