Historia
Imagination is a core aspect of being human. Our imagination allows us to fully experience ourselves in relation to the world and reality. Since the 17th century, however, imagination has been sidelined and dismissed as "make believe". Four centuries ago, a new way of knowing the world and ourselves emerged in the west and has gone on to dominate human life: science. Imagination has been marginalized - depicted as a way of escaping reality, rather than coming to grips with it - and its significance to our humanity has been downplayed.

Atrocious narration

- The Lost Knowledge of the Imagination
- De: Gary Lachman
- Narrado por: Leslie James
Lackluster narration detracts from Lachman’s excellent message.
Revisado: 06-11-20
The narrator doesn’t seem to recognize periods as stopping points. He reads the sections with some inflection but overall the otherwise excellent content is relayed as one/ many long, run-on sentences. Very distracting.

Fantastic Resource
Revisado: 04-23-15
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes. It's an interesting way to get conversational in Italian in a short amount of time.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Rilkey 613 Italian Dialogues?
"Do you work around here?"
"I never work. I am rich and lazy"
"Now you are joking"
"I never joke about money".
Dialogues such as these make me feel like I'm listening to my relatives. Very authentic (& funny). Just to be clear, not all the dialogues are funny mostly just authentic, useful phrases. But when they are funny it's an unexpected gift (especially if you don't follow along with the e-book).
Have you listened to any of Carlo Consoli and Carmen Luvana ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No - I practice a bit everyday.
Any additional comments?
Finding this resource was a very pleasant surprise. I hope they do more in Italian!

Fantastic!
Revisado: 03-19-15
Ms. Ferrante's ability to capture the generational mood & nuance of that period of time while at the same time interweaving timeless elements (ie, rites of passage, etc) is phenomenal. The story is just as compelling in English as in Italian.
The performance was great as well, The few, minor pronunciation slips (occasionally substituting "Leye-la" for "Lee-la") were totally eclipsed by the narrator's fantastic ability to consistently give each character their own credible voice.
I look forward to seeing more of Ms. Ferrante's books on Audible! Maybe someday the original Italian versions could be made available as well.
