Great book, terrible recording
Revisado: 01-30-20
Countless awkward edits where the flow was completely interrupted, multiple in-sentence corrections, constantly fluctuating white noise levels.

Historia
In ancient days, sorcerers sought to learn the One True Spell that would give them power over all the world and understanding of all magic.... The One True Spell was a woman, and her name was Mystra - and her kisses were wonderful. It is the time before Myth Drannor, when the Heartlands are home to barbarians, and wicked dragons rule the skies. In these ancient days, Elminster is but a shepherd boy, dreaming of adventure and heroics. When a dragon-riding magelord sweeps down upon him, though, the boy is thrust into a world of harsh realities, corrupt rulers, and evil sorcerers.

Unrelatable hero, undetectable scene changes
Revisado: 01-18-19
While many stories of heroes are relatable in a way that leaves the reader/listener understanding that the characters are what they are because of their choices, this story does not. I feel no investment in a main character that has their life story divinely manipulated and largely undirected by their own choices.
As for the performance, the near monotone is terrible, and worst of all, you can't tell at all when the scenes change. Where the printed book has clear paragraph breaks to indicate the change, the pauses between scenes are shorter than the pauses between sentences. I found myself regularly rewinding to make sense of it all.
There were also at least 3 errors in the recording of duplicated sentences and/or phrases.
