Historia
History of the American Frontier 1763-1893 by Frederic L. Paxson, professor of history at the University of Wisconsin. Houghton Mifflin Company 1924. Pulitzer Prize-winner in History, 1925. The prize-winning History of the American Frontier, 1763-1893 covers a very wide sweep of topics, with unusual strength in handling violent relations between the frontiersman and the Indians. Paxson emphasized the impact on people of the process of moving to the west, downplaying the static aspects of specific localities.

Interesting to view a progressive westward American frontier .

Dry narration makes it difficult to focus on. However, content is interesting and educational. Lots of significant American historic figures like Robert Rogers, Tecumseh, William Henry Harrison and geographically references had me researching. Based on this audiobook, I purchased the 1925 Pulitzer winning print copy, enjoyed reading it, and proudly added to my library.

Historia
Called a great book worthy of a great man, this definitive biography of the Commander in Chief of the Pacific Fleet in World War II is considered the best book ever written about Admiral Chester W. Nimitz. Highly respected by both the civilian and naval communities, Nimitz was sometimes overshadowed by more colorful warriors in the Pacific such as MacArthur and Halsey. Potter's lively and authoritative style fleshes out Admiral Nimitz's personality to help listeners appreciate the contributions he made as the principle architect of Japan's defeat.

I’m an Army guy but Admiral Nimitz outranks General McArthur by a mile in my book. Very well written book that brings to life what makes a great patriot leader.

Historia
Only days after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, President Franklin D. Roosevelt tapped Chester W. Nimitz to assume command of the Pacific Fleet. Nimitz transformed the devastated and dispirited Pacific fleet into the most powerful and commanding naval force in history. Facing demands from Washington to mount an early offensive, he had first to revive the depressed morale of the thousands of sailors, soldiers, and Marines who served under him. And of course, he also confronted a formidable and implacable enemy in the Imperial Japanese Navy.

Historia
Up until now, the Korean War has been the black hole of modern American history. The Coldest Winter changes that. Halberstam gives us a masterful narrative of the political decisions and miscalculations on both sides. He charts the disastrous path that led to the massive entry of Chinese forces near the Yalu, and that caught Douglas MacArthur and his soldiers by surprise. He provides astonishingly vivid and nuanced portraits of all the major figures.

Warning: this is an abridged audible book
Revisado: 01-08-23
Audible should clearly state when a book is abridged. I routinely complete “hybrid reading “ of books. I listen on the way to work and read the physical book when I can or when important sections with maps or other useful information is needed to complete my understanding. THIS AUDIO BOOK IS ABRIDGED BUT DOES NOT INFORM A BUYER when purchasing. This fact has me requesting a refund and wondering if this practice is widespread by Audible. I’m an avid reader and this an important issue for me.

Historia
Nobody needs telling there isn’t enough time. We’re obsessed with our lengthening to-do lists, our overfilled inboxes, work-life balance, and the ceaseless battle against distraction; and we’re deluged with advice on becoming more productive and efficient, and “life hacks” to optimize our days. But such techniques often end up making things worse. The sense of anxious hurry grows more intense, and still the most meaningful parts of life seem to lie just beyond the horizon.

Seldom does a book have the impact of Michelle Alexander’s The New Jim Crow. Historia
Some Americans cling desperately to the myth that we are living in a post-racial society, that the election of the first Black president spelled the doom of racism. In fact, racist thought is alive and well in America - more sophisticated and more insidious than ever. And as award-winning historian Ibram X. Kendi argues in Stamped from the Beginning, if we have any hope of grappling with this stark reality, we must first understand how racist ideas were developed, disseminated, and enshrined in American society.

Wow! The history is overwhelming and forced this middle aged Caucasian male u.s. history buff to reflect on our nation’s history and current political environment. We have gone from slavery to segregation to racism but reading this shows we still have further to travel.
