Historia
Fifteen-year-old Lina is a Lithuanian girl living an ordinary life - until Soviet officers invade her home and tear her family apart. Separated from her father and forced onto a crowded train, Lina, her mother, and her young brother make their way to a Siberian work camp, where they are forced to fight for their lives. Lina finds solace in her art, documenting these events by drawing. Risking everything, she embeds clues in her drawings of their location and secretly passes them along, hoping her drawings will make their way to her father's prison camp.

I knew some of the historical facts regarding the annexation of Lithuania, but this book really painted a beautiful, heartbreaking tale. My only issue was I didn't like the narrator's voice

Historia
Best-selling author Laurie Halse Anderson is known for the unflinching way she writes about and advocates for survivors of sexual assault. Now, inspired by her fans and enraged by how little in our culture has changed since her groundbreaking novel Speak was first published 20 years ago, she has written a poetry memoir that is as vulnerable as it is rallying, as timely as it is timeless.

Historia
The Goldfinch is a haunted odyssey through present-day America and a drama of enthralling force and acuity. It begins with a boy. Theo Decker, a 13-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don't know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his unbearable longing for his mother, he clings to one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.

Historia

For these 16-year-olds, fitting in at school is nearly as difficult as navigating their complicated home lives. Red has an alcoholic mother and a father who's never around. Leo's brother is in prison. Rose uses sex and alcohol to numb the pain of a brutal attack. Naomi's punk rock princess persona gives her the freedom to be her true self.

Not what I expected
Revisado: 03-10-18
Slow beginning but good and very deep/dark and very intriguing central part of the book. However, the tying off of all the problems at the end and making everything all “happy ending” kinda ruined it. I’m not saying it should have ended well for all the characters but like Red’s mom just poof getting over being an alcoholic and anti-lesbian? Just like that? Everyone hugs and it’s all okay? The whole book had been centralized about Red NOT fitting in and in one conversation, her life is fixed? Not convinced.

READ THIS BOOK!
Revisado: 07-09-17
Holy damn hell. (Hope that doesn't get this taken down) but this book absolutely exceeded any expectations I thought I had. If I'm going to be honest, the true rawness of this book has made me re-evaluate who I am as a person whose struggled but not nearly in the way others have. Extremely well written.
