Historia
William Pepper was James Earl Ray's lawyer in the trial for the murder of Martin Luther King, Jr., and even after Ray's conviction and death, Pepper continues to adamantly argue Ray's innocence. This myth-shattering expose is a revised, updated, and heavily expanded volume of Pepper's original best-selling and critically-acclaimed book of the same name, with 26 years of additional research included. The result reveals dramatic new details of the night of the murder, the trial, and why Ray was chosen to take the fall for an evil conspiracy.

Revisado: 03-15-25
The overwhelming collaborative details and evidence of the case chronicled here prove beyond reasonable doubt that: James Earl Ray did not assassinate Dr. MLK; the government’s involvement in his murder; and the media and government’s concerted effort to suppress the truth. And the suppression and manipulation of the facts equates to a double-murder of sorts.
Everyone deserves to know the facts surrounding the assassination of one of the world’s most impactful figures. With the rise of independent film/media, I hope a courageous creative makes this book into a documentary soon.

Historia
The dust storms that terrorized the High Plains in the darkest years of the Depression were like nothing ever seen before or since. Following a dozen families and their communities through the rise and fall of the region, Timothy Egan tells of their desperate attempts to carry on through blinding black dust blizzards, crop failure, and the death of loved ones. Brilliantly capturing the terrifying drama of catastrophe, he does equal justice to the human characters who become his heroes.

Excellent story telling!
Revisado: 11-21-24
The narrator is probably the best out of all the books. I’ve listened to (that as many!). The book was well written and easy to follow along because of the excellent storytelling. I learned a lot about an area of the country where which I was born. Learned a lot about history, period. Highly recommend!

Historia
In 1985, Anthony Ray Hinton was arrested and charged with two counts of capital murder in Alabama. Stunned, confused, and only 29 years old, Hinton knew that it was a case of mistaken identity and believed that the truth would prove his innocence and ultimately set him free. But with an incompetent defense attorney and a different system of justice for a poor black man in the South, Hinton was sentenced to death by electrocution. He spent his first three years on Death Row at Holman State Prison in despairing silence.

Interesting Life
Revisado: 01-17-24
I enjoyed getting to know Anjelah beyond her characters and stand-up routines. I could relate to some of her life experiences and personality/temperament traits.
Mostly, I could relate to her journey through the western evangelical church, life, and processing/deconstructing some of the traditions/systems.
Whether I agree or disagree with anything she said is probably irrelevant. The main take away is that she was brave enough to detail a lot of her history and journey, knowing it would open her up for praise from some and criticism from others.
At the end of the day it’s her story, and she told it well.

Most of the world remembers Crazy Horse as a peerless warrior who brought the U.S. Army to its knees at the Battle of Little Bighorn. But to his fellow Lakota Indians, he was a dutiful son and humble fighting man who, with valor, spirit, respect, and unparalleled leadership, fought for his people's land, livelihood, and honor. In this fascinating biography, Joseph Marshall, himself a Lakota Indian, creates a vibrant portrait of the man, his times, and his legacy.

A Necessary Narrative
Revisado: 11-15-23
As someone still very early in educating herself on matters of history, I’m glad I fell upon this book in particular to learn of the life and journey of Crazyhorse and the Lakota people. I appreciate the author’s perspective and posture in describing and portraying the man, the events, the backstory and the interlocking stories. This book is for anyone with and interest in learning and gaining insight and perspective. It’s more than a historical narrative. It’s an unveiling of truth that helps, to a degree, connect some dots of buried and twisted realities of US history. Thank you for the life investment made to produce this important work.

Historia
Philip Yancey, whose explorations of faith have made him a guide for millions, feels no need to defend the church. Yancey acknowledges that many spiritual seekers find few answers and little solace in the institutional church. How did Yancey manage to survive spiritually despite early encounters with a racist, legalistic church that he now views as almost cultic? In this, his most soul-searching book yet, he probes that very question.

First, Philip Yancey is an excellent narrator. His narration magnifies the quality of the content.
Second, the biographies of his unlikely mentors are very well depicted, creating intrigue about each one.
Yancey’s experience and journey creates a sense of safety for the reader/listener to be honest about one’s feelings own peaks and valleys of faith.
So glad he has chosen to be vulnerable and transparent about his journey with Christ.

Where the Light Fell is a gripping family narrative set against a turbulent time in post-World War II America, shaped by the collision of Southern fundamentalism with the mounting pressures of the civil rights movement and '60s-era forces of social change. In piecing together his fragmented personal history and his search for redemption, Yancey gives testament to the enduring power of our hunger for truth and the possibility of faith rooted in grace instead of fear.

This is more than just an interesting memoir.
Revisado: 12-03-21
If I have ever been nearly as captivated by a story, my memory fails me to recall it. Having never read any of Philip Yancey’s books previously, I landed on this one after hearing him in a podcast interview. Should this be the only book of his that I read, I am satisfied with my election.
Not only is he a superb writer and storyteller, Philip Yancey shares his story with humble transparency that is not only refreshing, but captivating. Additionally, The fact that he is the narrator, and so excellent in this role, intensifies the captivation beyond what reading silently in my own internal voice would allow.
I think it’s safe to presume that any honest Christian, any person who has left the Church or anyone reeling from “church-hurt” will identify with at least some facet of his family or Christian experience (or both). In identifying, the opportunity for growth, healing and recovery will be available.
Oh that every life-traveler would read.

Historia
After her release from a concentration camp, Corrie ten Boom set out to become what she called a “tramp for the Lord,” traveling around the world at the direction of God and proclaiming his message everywhere. Throughout her life-long experiences, she learned a few lessons in God’s great classroom, which she here shares with listeners. Corrie introduces us to her former prison guard, who asks her for forgiveness; a war-crippled lawyer with a soul as twisted and deformed as his limbs; and more.
