Historia
It is the year 1613, and King James is sending his messenger Andrew Logan into Scotland with secret orders to arrest Sir David Moray, close friend and advisor of the late Prince Henry. Secrets are second nature to Andrew, who must hide his Second Sight to stay alive. Joined by a court scrivener and the scrivener's spirited daughter Phoebe, Andrew slowly untangles the true purpose of his mission—to frame Sir David for Prince Henry's murder. But Andrew is unwilling to betray an innocent man.

A unique perspective of royal history I have never thought of- the plight of being a messenger. I think I have all of Susanna Kearsley's books and she never disappoints! It took me a while to get into the multiple character voices, as I prefer one voice throughout, but the story itself was stellar. Be sure to listen to the notes at the end for a richer understanding of all the research she puts into her novels.

One of my favorite books this year!

I will listen to this one again. It has everything I love: history; layers of time-in-place; a garden; stories of the people as time changes their ways of life. This is a keeper.

Historia
Winter lasts most of the year at the edge of the Russian wilderness, and in the long nights, Vasilisa and her siblings love to gather by the fire to listen to their nurse’s fairy tales. Above all, Vasya loves the story of Frost, the blue-eyed winter demon. Wise Russians fear him, for he claims unwary souls, and they honor the spirits that protect their homes from evil. Then Vasya’s widowed father brings home a new wife from Moscow. Fiercely devout, Vasya’s stepmother forbids her family from honoring their household spirits, but Vasya fears what this may bring.

It Took Me Away
Revisado: 11-12-18
Fantasy is not usually my genre, but this one has so much more. I felt the frigid geography of place as each scene was unfolding before me. The characters were believable, even the domavois which I had never heard of before. The narrator did a wonderful job. I was happy to learn this is the first book of a series. #MythologyInspired #Magical #FemaleProtagonist #tagsgiving and #sweepstakes

Historia
At only five years old, Saroo Brierley got lost on a train in India. Unable to read or write or recall the name of his hometown or even his own last name, he survived alone for weeks on the rough streets of Calcutta before ultimately being transferred to an agency and adopted by a couple in Australia. Despite his gratitude, Brierley always wondered about his origins. Eventually, with the advent of Google Earth, he had the opportunity to look for the needle in a haystack he once called home.

A Story of Heart and Home
Revisado: 08-06-18
I loved this book. I watched the movie afterwards, and although it is also good, the book is best. There are so many cases of how this boy and then man was led by the heart to keep going, searching, believing and was finally rewarded deeply by doing so. What an inspirational message and an education on the need for more people to adopt. I know much good will continue to come from not only his amazing story. In a day when most of us just rush about half way doing things, his example teaches the value of being thorough and paying attention to detail. Had he not be an observant child, this story could not have been written. Had he not been methodical in the search process, he would go through the rest of his life haunted. This one will stick with me. I hope his efforts are successful in helping other children throughout the world.
