Historia
In 1984, Michael Vickers took charge of the CIA’s secret war against the Soviets in Afghanistan. After inheriting a strategy aimed at imposing costs on the Soviets for their invasion and occupation of Afghanistan, Vickers transformed the covert campaign into an all-out effort to help the Afghan resistance win their war. More than any other American, he was responsible for the outcome in Afghanistan that led to the end of the Cold War. In By All Means Available, Vickers recounts his remarkable career.

I didn’t really get anything from this book
Revisado: 01-19-23
I was hoping for much much more and was left pretty disappointed. I guess I am the kind of person that likes the nitty gritty and the research why someone comes to their conclusion. Otherwise the whole book is a big anecdote. The details are the punch and the drive and the reason for listening to someone’s message. I was left scratching my head wondering what was the point of this book… could have been a buzz feed article.

Historia
In Drug Use for Grown-Ups, he draws on decades of research and his own personal experience to argue definitively that the criminalization and demonization of drug use - not drugs themselves - have been a tremendous scourge on America, not least in reinforcing this country's enduring structural racism. Dr. Hart did not always have this view. He came of age in one of Miami's most troubled neighborhoods at a time when many ills were being laid at the door of crack cocaine. His initial work as a researcher was aimed at proving that drug use caused bad outcomes.

We definitely need to fix the way we enforce laws. But I learned a lot about some drugs and still have a ton a questions about others. Over the narration was pretty horrible but I got through it. The story/ message I could agree with most.

Historia
Most books about the history of humanity pursue either a historical or a biological approach, but Dr. Yuval Noah Harari breaks the mold with this highly original book. From examining the role evolving humans have played in the global ecosystem to charting the rise of empires, Sapiens integrates history and science to reconsider accepted narratives, connect past developments with contemporary concerns, and examine specific events within the context of larger ideas.

Worth a read but now that it’s aged is a little behind
Revisado: 12-13-22
I really like the book. Brings up good points and opened my perspective to early humans. It’s a little off putting when a book brings up cyborgs so the ending left me a bit dissatisfied. I wish they left it where we are now (or 2014 when published) overall would recommend.

Historia
For 17 years, the Soviets knew every military move we made! That is how damaging the Walker family spy ring was to our national security. For the better part of two decades, John Walker, his son Michael, brother Arthur, and friend Jerry Whitworth comprised the KGB's greatest asset. Meticulously detailing the FBI investigation which finally broke the case, John Barron reveals how close the United States came to disaster - and how the repercussions may linger for decades.

Revisado: 11-21-22
I started reading Vietnam SOG books and loved them. They often referenced the Soviet’s/ VC/ enemy knowing they were coming. One book mentioned John Walker and I had to know more. This book gave me exactly what I wanted to know and more. I would recommend.

Historia
During the Vietnam War, a “secret war” was fought across the fence in Laos, Cambodia, and North Vietnam, unknown to the media or the public, under the aegis of the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam’s top secret Studies and Observations Group. SOG’s chain of command for missions and after-action reports extended to the White House and the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Written by a profound scholar
Revisado: 09-30-22
I like most of the message in the book. I think it gives a good view of a current state. We are deeply divided to the point where it seems no one can be right.
I did not love the narration and some of the word choices throughout the book. In come cases it seemed like Joey with a thesaurus. At points it also felt preachy.
I would recommend this book for all kinds of persons. It has a good message, it’s written well and defends its statements. If you don’t wholly agree with the book you will at least have a better understanding of a point of view.

Revisado: 05-05-22
I liked the book and thought it was well written. I was a bit disappointed with it till the last chapter summary. I think she did an amazing job wrapping up the book and including counters to her claims. I believe there is much more that can be done and should be done.

Historia
Four days before Christmas in 1943, a badly damaged American bomber struggled to fly over wartime Germany. At its controls was a 21-year-old pilot. Half his crew lay wounded or dead. It was their first mission. Suddenly a sleek, dark shape pulled up on the bomber’s tail - a German Messerschmitt fighter. Worse, the German pilot was an ace, a man able to destroy the American bomber with the squeeze of a trigger.

Revisado: 04-18-22
I had a ton of fun listening to this book and learning about the planes. Along with this book you will find yourself looking up all the planes and learning both the German and American planes. Such an interesting time in history and a good book to tell that story.
