Historia
Nimble and expertly researched, The Devil’s Best Trick brilliantly melds cultural and historical commentary and a suspenseful true-crime narrative. Randall Sullivan, whose reportage and narrative skill has been called “extraordinary” and “enthralling” by Rolling Stone, takes on a bold task in this book that is both biography of the Devil and a look at how evil manifests in the world.

Interesting
Revisado: 06-07-24
Rambling but interesting. Hard to listen to the details of crime and humans sacrifice. Not sure I agree with the conclusion of evil as opposed to mental illness. Not convincing. The reader was very good but had trouble with pronunciation.

Historia
He was definitely dead, whoever he was. He wore a once-black jumper and a pair of shiny tracksuit bottoms. The back of his head was cracked and his hair matted, but it had been foxy before that. A tall man, a skinny rake, another string of piss, now departed. She hadn't gotten a look at his face before she flaked him with the Holy Stone, and she couldn't bring herself to turn him over. One messy murder affects the lives of five misfits who exist on the fringes of Ireland's post-crash society.

Amazing performance, brilliant book

Loved the Maureen character. Amazing dialog. Sad, believable characters. And the narration was outstanding. Loved the references to the river throughout, and the ghosts.

Fantastic
Revisado: 09-27-22
Though the reading style is a little odd, it's not terribly distracting. The people and scenarios described are worthy of attention and I'm very grateful. And enraged all over again. Just the book we need at this time to reenergize us to vote and support voter turnout with all our energy.

Historia
On the Clock takes us behind the scenes of the fastest-growing segment of the American workforce to understand the future of work in America - and its present. Until robots pack boxes, resolve billing issues, and make fast food, human beings supervised by AI will continue to get the job done. Guendelsberger shows us how workers went from being the most expensive element of production to the cheapest - and how low wage jobs have been remade to serve the ideals of efficiency, at the cost of humanity.

Eye opening, worth reading, one error that I noticed
Revisado: 02-03-20
When the author says she got on bart and saw the golden gate as she crossed the river into Oakland, she made a couple errors. Bart goes under the bay, not a river, and there’s no way to see the golden gate in that process because you’re under water. Made me wonder if there are other inaccuracies. I hope not. I think this is an important book. But that’s a silly error.

Inspiring book
Revisado: 11-13-19
I *love* this book. The women profiled are inspiring. My only small criticism is the performance is a bit disappointing. It's lovely to hear Hillary and Chelsea but I'd prefer a professional reader.

Pete Banning was Clanton's favorite son, a returning war hero, the patriarch of a prominent family, a farmer, a father, a neighbor, and a faithful member of the Methodist church. Then one cool October morning in 1946, he rose early, drove into town, walked into the church, and calmly shot and killed the Reverend Dexter Bell.

I couldn’t bear it. I usually love JG’s storytelling. Not this one. Gave up. Too relentlessly bleak.
