Historia
LeBron James is the greatest basketball player of the twenty-first century, and he’s in the conversation with Michael Jordan as the greatest of all time. The reigning king of the game and the first active NBA player to become a billionaire, LeBron wears the crown like he was born with it. Yet his ascent has been anything but effortless and predetermined—the truth is vastly more interesting than that. LeBron tells the full, riveting saga of how a child adrift found the will to become a titan. Jeff Benedict paints a vivid picture of LeBron’s epic origin story, showing the gradual rise of a star.

Historia
There’s a story about Rich Paul that everyone knows: A twenty-one-year-old kid from Cleveland who sells sports jerseys out of his car meets a high school basketball phenom named LeBron James at an airport—the two become friends and forge a decades-long partnership that reinvents the business of sports. That random meeting might seem like the lucky break that changed Paul’s life. But a moment of good fortune means nothing without the struggle that gets you there. And the truth is, Paul had always been lucky.

An important message
Revisado: 06-19-24
I love this book. It could not stop listening. Rich Paul is intelligent and a survivor. Coming from the school of hard knocks myself, I understand the struggle to break the cycle of dysfunction that keeps people born into a pile of s$!? down. And while I too have written above that to make a difference, I will still take some of his rules and use them to continue to better my life and the lives of the people that I make a difference for. Thank you Rich Paul for sharing your story. If I can convince my students, that come from such terrible backgrounds, to read your story, I hope it will make a difference for them too.

A story about friendship, love, and the price of self-delusion, The Best Minds explores the ways in which we understand—and fail to understand—mental illness.

Thorough, thoughtful and necessary
Revisado: 01-24-24
Rosen did a wonderful job of telling a number of different stories about important topics, including the tragedy of Michael Lauder, the history of mental illness, and truly all of the intentions of those involved and/or impacted by serious mental illness. In addition, I learned a lot, even though some of the references are straight out of the Ivy League. I found myself searching and learning even more about so many aspects of the book. What a gift . If you care about the history of mental illness or of you care about someone with a serious mental illness, give this book the time it deserves.

A helpful book to understand trauma from the perspective of the person traumatized
Revisado: 08-09-23
Complex PTSD is explained well. A lot of research was explained well and I enjoyed the beginning and the end of the story most; some of the middle of the story I found hard to follow, but overall a worthwhile listen, and I learned a lot thank you Stephanie Foo for your courage in writing your story.

What story begins in a bedroom in suburban New Jersey in the early '60s, unfolds on some of the country's largest stages, and then ranges across the globe, demonstrating over and over again how rock and roll has the power to change the world for the better? This story. The first true heartbeat of Unrequited Infatuations is the moment when Stevie Van Zandt trades in his devotion to the Baptist religion for an obsession with rock and roll.

What a life! What a remarkable person.
Revisado: 12-16-21
This book is long and detailed with Stevie’s early years to modern day. A remarkable man with depth, empathy, compassion, passion for justice, education, equality, the arts, love, travel, things seen and unseen, with sex appeal and a little naughty even now… that bad boy’s still in there. He’s so much more than a rocker and mainstream actor from Sopranos, Lillehammer and The Christmas Chronicles. He’s loved and lived and left this world a better place for sure. Worth the listen! Thank goodness people like Stevie Van Zandt exist.
