We get so many answers and background about everything mentioned in previous books, but, it's done in such a subtle intelligent way that it enhances the story without being heavy handed or feeling obviously forced. So even though you get more insight into these characters and their motivations, it never takes you completely out of the current story you're reading or listening to. You're reading it and going "Wow, THAT'S why he says that or that's why she did...etc" You connect the dots while still being engaged with what is happening and it all weaves together beautifully. Suzanne is so respectful of this story and of the readers who have been invested in these characters for so long. It was everything a prequel should be. Every revelation, every bit of it felt like it was what we would expect from the characters personality, it felt real and it was heartbreaking but so satisfying. This is the best prequel I have ever read, hands down.

A surprisingly fresh take on a common storyline

Danielle Steel books usually deal with the tragic, incredibly beautiful male or male protagonists that lead horrific lives.

This one is still the tragic beauty trope, but, the characters seem way more empowered, stronger, they speak up sooner and fight back quicker leading to some very satisfying outcomes. The females have hard lives and try to cope for a while, but then stand up for themselves and their beliefs and do what's best for themselves BEFORE really bad things happen instead of years and years afterwards like in other storylines.

It was pleasantly surprising and I found myself very proud and happy at the strength showed in standing up for themselves.

I knew tragedy would come at some point and it does, but it's still a great story about growth and living yourselves and ignoring people who cannot love you properly.

I really enjoyed it. There were two scenes that I found disturbing, but thankfully they did not last long.

Satisfying end to the trilogy

I'll start by saying the narrator really brought this book to life. There were so many different characters and each one had a distinctive quality to their tone and speech pattern, so much so, that you knew exactly who was speaking at all times and it stayed consistent throughout all three books. This book gave me everything I feel a trilogy should give, it brought every single characters story arc over the previous two books to a satisfying end. All questions answered, they stayed true to their personalities even in the harshest situations and didn't suddenly develop the perfect set of skills or mindset just to further the story. I was very pleased with how it ended and although I hate to see a great book end, when it does so in a way that gives the proper closure to characters you've come to know so well over the course of the storyline, it makes it all worthwhile.

It's really surprising how someone describing the many ways to cook Asparagus can be so soothing and relaxing, lol..but it really is. The narrator's voices are so well modulated that even though you hear what they are saying, you're also given permission to drift off without feeling you're missing out on an important part of your newest book. The voices transition seamlessly into breathing and meditation exercises that do not interrupt your sleep pattern enough to wake you completely up. I really enjoy listening to this at night as I fall asleep. I also think there's a good chance that I can cook French cuisine now...🤔🤔

The actual story was very well written, but the narrator has a very awkward way of pronouncing every single syllable in a word that took me away from the story and had me focusing on why she sounded so stilted and robotic.

I see it's a different narrator for this one, not the narrator who read the first book. The first book was very enjoyable to listen to. This one was tough to get into though.

Instead of her words flowing at a steady pace, her choppy reading made each word stand out and caused the dialogue to sound stiff and unreal instead of the conversational way most people actually speak.

Overall though, the book is still a great read, great plot, and good characters. But, I believe I will use my Kindle Unlimited subscription to borrow the third book in the series that is now available, and read it on my own instead of waiting for the audio book to be released.

I loved the story , this was a wonderful conclusion, it had everything. I must say though that the narrator Lincoln Hoppe made this book even better. He effortlessly switched between accents convincingly, his female voices were not overdone and he breathed the perfect amount of emotion into every single word, it was brilliant!

Not being that familiar with Alice in Wonderland, I didnt know how I would react to this book. I loved it, there were bits here and there of Alice, but it focused on the main character of Catherine and her forbidden love and unconventional desire to be more than a pampered lady. As a prequel to the fairy tale, it hits every detail and explains the origin of many things we know about Alice. Nicely written and brilliantly narrated. There were many characters but the narrator made each voice distinct. I enjoyed it very much.

At first, the accent of the reader threw me off, but i quickly became accustomed to her voice. She did very well, especially with her voice for the character's sister who has Downs syndrome.

Jack is sadistic and cunning, a real monster. Grace is a sympathetic character in that she is very much a fighter and a strong free thinking woman, but is caught up unexpectedly in the sick game her husband has orchestrated from the very begining.

The book jumps from past to present masterfully and gives you just enough information to see where the story may be heading, but holds back enough to keep you in suspense. The entire story, the way it is performed and put together is brilliant. I loved it.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

If the story was more cohesive with the two previous books

Has Allegiant turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, I still like the genre

What didn’t you like about Emma Galvin and Aaron Stanford ’s performance?

I liked their performance but the material was not very good

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The performers really did sound like the characters they portrayed and the story wrapped up a few loose ends but overall I was expecting a lot more from this book
