Historia
Dale Scott's career as a professional baseball umpire spanned nearly forty years, including thirty-three in the Major Leagues, from 1985 to 2017. He worked exactly a thousand games behind the plate, calling balls and strikes at the pinnacle of his profession, working in every Major League Baseball stadium, and interacting with dozens of other top-flight umpires, colorful managers, and hundreds of players. What makes Scott's book truly different is his unique perspective as the only umpire in the history of professional baseball to come out as gay during his career.

Amazing person, amazing story
Revisado: 12-31-23
This book is absolutely fantastic. I'm not a huge baseball person in general and read this on a friend's recommendation, but I simply couldn't stop listening. The narration by the author made this whole book feel incredibly authentic and vibrant. The stories were enlightening, engaging, and artfully told. I had no idea about the inner workings of baseball umpires, but have a whole new appreciation for them that I will carry for the rest of my life!
What a fascinating career, and hearing about it through such a thoughtful and unique perspective made it even better. Reading about Mr. Scott's path to self-acceptance, love, family, friends, and decades-long dedication to his craft was a gift.
I won't be over this book for a long time, and I look forward to recommending it to others. 10/10, a worthwhile read for anyone and everyone!

Historia
Will is in Bristol for a brand-new start. He’s got his outrageous flatmate, Emma, his job at the bookshop and he’s totally infatuated with Gus. A French Bulldog. An actual relationship with an actual man seems about as real as the science fiction novels Will stacks on shelves all day long. And then into his life walks Ben. Ben is all the things Will isn’t: confident, charming (bordering on cocky), popular, a Jiu Jitsu champion, and generally deflecting life’s problems as easily as dodging a clumsy throw on the mat.

What a wonderful and heartfelt story!
Revisado: 06-15-23
This was such a sweet, heartfelt story. I smiled often, cried a little, and overall had a lovely time with Will and Ben. The narration was absolutely spectacular and really brought the characters to life. I really enjoyed the way the relationship developed and how Will grew through his journey on the dating scene - well-written and wonderfully performed!

Not your brother's straight friend, but something new. Something more. Something that will change everything if we can both find the courage to believe.

Sweet and Easy
Revisado: 04-24-23
This was the perfect audio for my "I want something easy to listen to, low-angst, sweet love story" mood. The narration was excellent and the story was fun, with lovable characters and an easy-to-follow but not-boring plot. I had a couple moments where I struggled to understand Benji's motivations, but otherwise this was an really enjoyable story!

Elliot: I need a roommate fast. Even a temporary one. Beggars can’t be choosers. Going pro after graduation has been intense, and time is precious. Thankfully, Braden seems cool. He’s a little quirky…and very sexy. Of course, I would never get involved with a roommate. That’s a bad idea. Isn’t it? Braden: Moving to Long Beach seems like a no brainer. It’ll be a perfect chance to wind down before grad school and a nice respite from my folks. Plus, my new roommate is a great guy. A little messy, but sweet. Gotta admit, I like him more than I should.

Fun, sweet, overall a good time
Revisado: 04-20-23
Michael Dean is the perfect narrator for these characters. The story was sweet and easy to follow, with a lovable group of friends! There were a few dynamics between characters that I found confusing (esp Sophie and the group) but the love story made those smaller things easy to overlook. The HEA was great and the bonus stories were a fun surprise. Overall, a good time!

Amazing performance for amazing characters
Revisado: 01-20-23
What an fantastic book! I don't usually love dual-narrated audiobooks, but the narrators did the most incredible job and flowed together seamlessly. One of the best I've ever heard! The story was outstanding, the writing was beautiful, and the experience of this book will stick with me for a long time. The two main characters will have you falling in love with them as they find each other. I'm so excited to pick up the rest of the series!
