that said... i found it a stimulating and fascinating "read" (AKA listen).
i believe creativity exists in all fields so no harm done. it is just that two thirds through the book you find out that richard's caliber for "creativity" is mostly a combo of bachelor degrees and patent requests... hmmm, not a lot of art, fashion, design. literature and craft caught in that pinspot.
but hurrah the notice of gays as virtual pollen for the bees!

oh, and speaking from the viewpoint of an artist — richard — you may want to look at the elephant in the room re pittsburgh struggling with keeping it's "creative" class: "pittsburgh" is quite simply NOT a sexy name, no matter how you slice it!
i suggest you change the name to something like mercedes or terrence and you may find they want to linger...
(and no... i am not gay, but i recognized their attracting power in the '70's and have since immersed myself in their fabulousness)

a book every women should listen to not only for insight into the female libido, but also extremely satisfying for all of you out there who, like me, have spent their lives feeling as if the language that centers around female sexuality is so far off the mark as to be almost a fiction.

For those of you who have labored through obtuse, circular language and the niggling sense that some one is simply reading from their own journal while you are trying to find some usable insight and answers between work and making dinner; this may finally be a book you can derive some actual information from!

It is most likely a book for those who feel they have had at least a glimpse of another way of being, maybe not as good for those wholly new to the concept of enlightenment?

There is very useful insight into the various facets of awakening and how to deal with this in the everyday. Practical yet highly enlightened ways to nourish and use those moments of unbounded clarity to find deeper insight and extended awakening WHILE you are living a life of work and family etc. That he is attempting this is so rare as to be nothing short of extraordinary in and of itself! But he is quick to explain how this is not a self-help book, retaining the true nature of zen artistry, in a way that is clear and understandable — at least to me!

Adyashanti also exposes the various ways you can get caught in your attempts toward enlightenment. For me this was incredibly valuable information, I am already inclined to say even life transformational information! We shall see...

Anyway, brava Adya! and thank you!!!!

What did you love best about City of Masks?

i was so pleased to finally listen to a book that had some in depth and accurate emotional and psychological content

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

for the sake of tension and dynamic i understand why there were a few teenage style lover spats but was a bit disappointed

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

no extreme reactions, just an enjoyable listen

Any additional comments?

hecht did a great job of not getting too wild with the paranormal aspect

Any additional comments?

did not give it 5 stars only because i reserve the fifth for an outstanding book but death of a dormouse was very enjoyable, the narrator did a great job and had a very pleasing tone to her voice. the metaphor of the dormouse was nicely woven into the plot. if you like this series you will most like this departure with a female protagonist.

i was compelled to write my first review after attempting to listen to this book as i felt i should warn those who, like me, may be looking for a book that will help them to understand, accept and utilize their shadow side; this is probably not the book for you. deepak has quite a few enlightened concepts and gives a list at the end of his section that can actually be applied to ones life so this is where the one star comes in but i would give it a half if i could. however williamson seems to see all of us as having dirty little secrets and repeats this concept so many times over and over without ever giving any useful advise that i had to skip to the next writer. ford, how should i put this: very simplistic, childish, archaic, apocalyptic rhetoric about god and love with a speaking voice that is so painfully overwrought with anguish that i could barely get through the first chapter (i found i was actually embarrassed for her). i managed to get through a few more chapters wanting to see if she had something useful to share but found only the thoughts of some one who is clearly terribly frightened by the dark side of human nature and can think of no other way to deal with it than to admonish everyone for not trying hard enough to be loving. yikes!!!
